Exactly right. They made it very clear that for any order where they take measurements, you have to come back to pick up the shoes. She didn't suggest any type of compromise or accomodation (which suggests that they're really tied in to their distributing agreement).
Thanks for the recommendations and the encouragement VR. I'll check out both tomorrow, right after I take in the baths and a massage, and before hitting the Van Gogh exhibit.
Today I just walked around and snapped photos, bought and enjoyed a cigar, enjoyed a couple of cocktails and scarfed down a steak at the restaurant of a former boxer. It seemed like a rather upscale sports bar, with a full dinner menu standing in for buffalo wings and potato skins and elegant wood and dark carpeting -- and even a wine cellar -- standing in for darts and beer taps.
My walk took me into what I assumed was the official quarter because I passed both their national assembly/parliament and the US embassy, purely on a lark. The bridge linking Buda and Pest is very beautiful at night (I'm on the Pest side, as is Vass).
In fact, I think the whole city (at least from what I've seen) looks better at night; that way you don't have to look at all those god-awful soviet era buildings. Irrespective of the ideology, just having to walk past that crap every day could steal one's motivation. I can see how vodka could easily become the morning drink of choice. Hrrrrr
