I am limited by geography since I need to work and go to school part-time instead of going full-time. I have chosen to go to Emory University for business school. I have seen the rankings published by periodicals but I don't put much faith in those. How is an Emory MBA perceived by finance professionals?

My very personal opinion: Wharton, Stanford, HBS, LBS, INSEAD - beyond that it's just goodwill and "went to bschool and got an MBA."

I am not saying that other schools have worse academic programs (in fact there will always be classes/ profs better here and there - but student body and selection is imo criticial) and other people - probably particular alumni themselves - will have a more positive opinion regarding Booth, Stern, online MBA at University of Phoenix, Tuck, Haas, Colombia, Darden, IESE, and what got you.

What school did you go to? I ask because that second paragraph is incoherent, and I think it would aid me in passing judgement on you if I knew what school you attended.

As I said, I am constrained by the location of my job. If I could have relocated to New England I would have applied to some of the schools you listed. I realize that Emory is not a top 5 school. What I wanted to ascertain is the perception of the school in the US among finance professionals. If you care to provide that type of insight, please repost otherwise I do not think the information you have provided is useful to me.

Crispeta is saying no matter where you go in the world a few particular schools will command undivided attention. The other schools he listed wont though they are still excellent but only alumni will look at them as highly.

I imagine you are just curious about our opinions but would it really affect your decision? Why don't you try to get a list of companies attending their career fairs and see if they're attractive selection. Isn't uga supposed to be good?

Yes. I just wanted the opinion of others on this board since it seems to attract some high finance types. I don't care what the best business school in the world is. I know those names already and I don't care. It is not an option for me. No, the opinion on this board won't sway my decision. I have not had access to the career fair company list since I just enrolled. UGA is actually the third or fourth best MBA program in Georgia behind Emory, Georgia Tech and maybe Georgia State. It is not what it used to be, but has a good reputation regionally.

Mods, just delete this thread. Clearly an epic fail. I will seek feedback from other places.

Emory is a very good school and has a reputable business program. A degree from Emory will serve you well in the business community.

what kind of finance?

easiest way to check is go to company websites to see if they recruit at your school.
