Can anybody recommend good looking dress shoes (appropriate for work or formal social functions) that have minimal or no heel and thin soles?

Thanks for the links, but I've searched them already.  Although there are a few suggestions peppered throughout, there really aren't many and I was hoping for more (and more recent models perhaps).  I see that dress shoes almost always have some amount of heel, but I guess my goal is to minimize that as much as possible while still looking fully professional.  Some shoes linked to in the referenced threads are pretty goofy looking.

Why do you want this?

But: some Rachel Comey and Vanishing Elephant models have low heels. Opening Ceremony have even lower. But I've never handled any of these shoes, so I can't speak to their quality. If the soles are merely glued to the uppers, they're crap. I also imagine these thin soles don't last very long, but again: no firsthand experience.

Some of those Rachel Comey shoes look pretty nice at least from pictures.  Unfortunately, I don't think I'll gain much: most of my dress shoes are about 1.5 inches in height, those are merely an inch.  I'm extremely tall and trying to build a wardrobe of work clothes that minimizes the appearance of height so I'm looking for large patterns, contrasting colors, horizontals, and the thinnest shoes possible.  I'm fresh out of college, so don't have a huge budget to spend on lots of different things, but want to make the best of a few pieces that can help.

I believe there are better options to reduce perception of your height without resorting to extremely low-heeled shoes. Since I'm 5'10", I don't know it off the top of my head, but there is advice around SF for dressing as a tall person.
