First braces ever? Don't jump into Thurstons just yet. I own a pair, and they're very nice, but they're not that much better than these, on sale now. Get a pair in navy and in burgundy.

These are fun, too, and also on sale.

Life is too short for this approach. If you've decided to be a braces wearer, sooner or later you'll be in Thurstons - so why not save yourself all the crappy intermediary stages and skip straight to the best. Even if they end up being the only pair you own, at least you'll own a really good pair. The boxcloth are the most satisfactory, though warm for summer. Personally I tend not to wear braces in summer anyway.

Sorry, I don't wear braces. Too Gordon Gekko!

I brought my braces form TM Lewin, relatively low cost and does the job

For funky ones, I like New &Lingwood

I also got a pair from there.. The part that attaches to the trousers broke! I did repair them though because I really like them.

+1...

I'd also point out that even Thurstons are really reasonably priced so I see no reason to settle...

I usually troll ebay for PRL braces, silk w/brass & leather fittings. Can be had as low as $25 a set.
