I was wondering how easy it is for americans to get job's in China? My girlfriend is looking to start teaching there in a year or so and I am going to need to find out what I can do about getting a job. Has anyone had this experience? Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

i woul think a teacing jobs can be found without knowing chinese but I inferred that he was looking for a non teaching job i could be wrong.

Any real job is tough to get. Chinese companies don't need expats anymore, for the most part, and multinationals don't either. TESL jobs are easy to get, but I don't really consider those to be jobs.

Getting a working visa in China is also not easy and there is currently a big crackdown on foreigners working w/o one.

Really depends on what industry and what your experience is. A foreign face doesn't really mean much anymore. If you've got some special skills that locals don't have you'll be alright. You can check out some job websites to get a feel for the market or just contact companies directly...

Everything I could have said in this thread has already been said. IMO you should do something better with your time, do an unpaid internship in the USA would be better instead of working in China. It's a black hole in people's resumes as far as I'm concerned. Having worked there for 3 years I know how little it's worth and the kind of people who stick around there.
