I was wondering how easy it is for americans to get job's in China? My girlfriend is looking to start teaching there in a year or so and I am going to need to find out what I can do about getting a job. Has anyone had this experience? Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

I saw a documentary once and it's quite easy to get a teaching job even if she doesn't speak chinese - also I figure that it wouldn't be problem to find job for you also because they are aest growing economy - but the wages there are small. Better work two months of a year in US...

i woul think a teacing jobs can be found without knowing chinese but I inferred that he was looking for a non teaching job i could be wrong.

Any real job is tough to get. Chinese companies don't need expats anymore, for the most part, and multinationals don't either. TESL jobs are easy to get, but I don't really consider those to be jobs.

Getting a working visa in China is also not easy and there is currently a big crackdown on foreigners working w/o one.

Really depends on what industry and what your experience is. A foreign face doesn't really mean much anymore. If you've got some special skills that locals don't have you'll be alright. You can check out some job websites to get a feel for the market or just contact companies directly...

If you're more senior just contact a headhunter and let them find something for you.

You're following your girlfriend to China? That doesn't sound like it'll end well.

Everything I could have said in this thread has already been said. IMO you should do something better with your time, do an unpaid internship in the USA would be better instead of working in China. It's a black hole in people's resumes as far as I'm concerned. Having worked there for 3 years I know how little it's worth and the kind of people who stick around there.

Which city did you work in? Different regions have vastly different cultures...

Besides, you are in HK.
