Modest Watch Question

I have spent the last fifteen years wearing a Tag 4000 series stainless face / stainless body watch that I like, but now consider a sports-watch. I would like something more elegant for work. My first impulse is vintage Rolex, but I really don't feel like I know exactly what I want yet and don't want to spend vintage-Rolex-money on something that I may not love. In the meantime, I would like something with no gold, with a leather band, with as little ornamentation as possible without being military, and yet, elegant. Vintage Omega? Longines? Mickey Mouse? Any wisdom appreciated.

I would suggest looking at Hamilton. They have a new Intra-matic that would likely fit your needs. Swiss made automatic movement and the full retail price is under $1,000. They also have a Thin-O-matic, Valiant, and Jazzmaster Viewmatic that may work.

Check their website http://www.hamiltonwatch.com/ to see these models and see if there is a dealer nearby.

You can also check Oris and Tissot. They may have some watches that fit your needs - and they are both reasonably priced.

Christopher Ward make some nice dress watches for under $2,000.

I think this is a pretty nice watch:

Both that Hamilton and the Christopher Ward are very appealing. I'm impressed that you gents of Styleforum picked up on the aesthetic I was describing so quickly.
