If Alden of DC is like most I am sure we are looking at $300 to a $400 deposit and a wait of up to 2 years before they are shipped to us.

Dunno if it is possible, but can we get the Thor boot with a full rubber heel? I think it would suit it as it is more of a workboot look.

I am interested in the Thor boot, but I would like to hear Kathy's response on deposit/wait times before committing.

I think its already been configured to group concensus and the vote is closed.  You could probably have a cobler change it, if its something you are really after.

It's my understanding that she won't have the wait time right off the bat, assuming she even agrees to accept the design.  Isn't the way that it works is she submitts the order to alden, and then months later they confirm it and put an ETA on it?

She could probably give us a general idea based on the turn around time of recent orders she's placed.

Considering this is consistent past practice, just assume it will be a 50% non-refundable deposit and a minimum 12 - 18 month wait. That has been the case for all 6 of the preorders I have done at various retailers, Epaulet, J. Gilbert, Alden DC. Sometimes you get surprised and the shoes come early, Huzzah!! But that should be your expectation and proceed from there.

On the fence, but also need deposit and wait time details. Balance payment due @shipment? Also, if it takes 1-2 years and I move, surely I can update my shipping information, correct? Very tempted now that we've moved away from WT...

Deposit will probably be ~$300 and you have to wait several months for Alden to "confirm" the makeup and then up to 9-12+ months for them to make it.

I can't speak for Kathy or any other potential retailer, but I know that most of them maintain a customer database that includes shipping information, and would think it would be as easy as calling them up and telling them that you moved, and mentioning that you are awaiting that specific make up.

I would also imagine that they will call or email you when they recieve the shoes/boots, and let you know they are shipping them to you.

Yes, balance of payment likely do at shipment, just as if you would buy an instock item.  That is assuming that they only require partial payment upfront, which seems to be the norm as others have mentioned.

Also, I'm not sure that they've moved away from the WT.  They are going to propose both designs and ideally move forward with both.  It all depends on what the retailer and alden are willing to do.

I would hope that she would.  I think it's understandable and reasonable that you passed, given the circumstances of that particular situation.

That all said, how do we start approaching retailers with this? I mentioned it to Ed at theshoemart several months ago (i sent him the picture of the boot we've been looking at here) and he showed no interest. But I could try again. I know Steven at leffot, but because I'm not a big purchaser I don't think he'd take me seriously. And the Alden stores all make a cigar cap toe (non perforated) and don't seem to want to do something so close to that. So what's our strategy?

Hi Sellran, I am late catching up on reading posts on the thread. Curious about Ed's response. Did he mention why he was not interested? Or did he simply not respond?

A perforated captoe seems like a big difference from a regular captoe. I am hoping the perf cap, along with the 360 welt, last and sole makes this a more unique and acceptable makeup for Alden DC.

I can't remember exactly why he wasn't interested. It's definitely worth approaching him again with this list of 16 folks who are committed. I think the shoemart and the Alden stores have the biggest pull with Alden and should be approached first. So who's going to call Ed?
