Just some food for thought (and beg pardon if it's already been covered) but $5k opens up some FAR more attractive options on the secondary market as compared with buying new.

and if you were considering an Omega De Ville or the like, 30-40% off is where I START.

Where can I see an Omega De Ville for 30-40% off list?

Lauren at Inventory Adjustors, Phoenix AZ, 602-278-5966, please tell her Robert sent you. They are one of the largest wholesale pre-owned dealers for 2nd tier (Tag, Movado, Omega, etc.) in the US. Typically you can expect 50% off list for used no box or papers. Just don't call her and ask for a Daytona or a Patek please.

I have done very well this way as well. We joke around the office that they are money market on your wrist.
Then you wouldn't really be making too much! But if that's ok with you, I cant really disagree!

Most know I am anti-watch bug! In my humble opinion; a fella only needs a few watches! I wouldn't be sitting on 17 like I was, thinking I'm gonna cash in big in 10 yrs. (2-long)! You may be kicked off the planet by that time! Then you gonna leave your wife or your kids "watches," why? It would make more since to keep a few and dump the rest, take the cash and put it into a trust or money market like you wrote! Because we, maybe some of us know when people bring in their loved ones collectables to a dealer or pawn broker; they get what they get and are happy they got something out of it, pennys on the dollar!

You can try Cartier, Breitling, BVLGARI, Longines and TAG Heuer watches. Some models of Rolex and Omega are also available for around 5000$ range.

I am guessing his comments are referring to the retailer's listed price. If that's the case, then I agree with him in that they are often way overpriced. That was what I meant.
You are right. Retailer rates are usually overpriced. Why don't you check out some online options, especially the price comparison lists. This will help you the find the actual price.
