I dunno man. Of the three photos you’ve posted, the first is borderline, the third looks fine, and only the second looks like an issue…..but it’s tough to tell because lighting exaggerates stuff and I’d probably just see how they wear. BUT, I’d caution against basing too many opinions on the views of your local cobbler unless there are really significant reasons for doing so. There’s almost certainly a beneath the surface competition going on, and the idea that “something shifted” doesn’t really stand up to logic.

It's hard to photograph because it is dark and wintery here and the light never catches the whole thing, but the crease goes down the whole side of each shoe on both sides from the front edge to right before the heel counter. It would be a lot more blatant if I could get some proper daylight shots of the shoes. I did wear the previous pair quite a bit and they never got better. The only way I got any improvement was by doing the old soak the shoes and let them dry over their trees trick for removing creases.

I really don't understand how you guys can think this is acceptable for $1000 CAD shoes. You must have a lot more money to burn than me because none of my previous "budget" shoes have had these sort of issues.

Been reading about the issues people are having with PS shoes. It is disappointing. I have bought AS shoes, not yet PS. I haven't sent them back because I've only really understood that there's been a problem after wearing them quite a bit. I have a pair of black loafers (sold under the Bowen label in France made by AS), 2 pairs of Selkirk veldtschoen boots (really nice looking boots). All have developed the same problem - creasing at the sides at the widest part of the feet that doesn't bode well for their life span at all. One pair seems even to be developing holes. But they are not tight on my feet, and only about 5 years old. Shouldn't be happening, and has never happened with any other of my shoes in that price range. I wonder about the quality of the leather being used.

That's interesting. I have the same pair of black loafers by AS for Bowen and I agree the leather seems to be of slightly lesser quality. I also have a tan pair with some bad loose grain. They are very comfortable, however, perhaps even more so than my JM Weston 180 they are imitating.

Curiously, I also own the AS Selkirk in Zug grain. I haven't used them enough to pass an opinion but they seem sturdy and the leather seems nice.

While reviews seem mixed of late, my general experience with both AS and PS is excellent. I have a pair of AS Bexhill chukkas in a very supple scotch grain that seems of fine quality relative to other high end shoes I own. The same goes for my PS Cambridge boots - leather seems identical. I also have the Armfields and have no issues.

Not sure the Bowen stuff should count. I have a PS pair and the leather and finishing is no different than the four AS pairs I have. It took a while to get them, but thats a lot of maker these days.

Paul Sargent Pytchey in dark brown grain, mounted on studded Ithside sole. Bought from the nice people of AFPOS.

C&J Lanark 3 in 378 last VS Paul Sargent Pytchely in 87 last.
