Indeed I think it's quite subtle considering the commando sole and I guess each sole has its advantages. This one would excel outdoors despite wet grounds. Here in England we have no shortages of damp/wet weather not to mention the salt on grounds during the winters. :-)

Naw, most of the raw-denim-jawz guys are even worse and cuff another 1" or so. I admit, I'm getting pretty tired of the cuff-look myself.

http://www.afinepairofshoes.co.uk/collections/sale-price-asc/products/alfred-sargent-exclusive-pimlico

Relative to the price, pretty comparable (of course these are my subjective opinions):

Fit/Last: this is subjective so AS = C&J
Uppers: AS < C&J; advantage to C&J is the leather uppers for their dark brown (I think they use that 'untreated' leather; don't know what it's called)
Colors: AS > C&J
Sole details: AS > C&J
Sole longevity: AS > C&J
Accessories (e.g., dust bags: AS = C&J
Sock liner: AS < C&J (C&J uses a full liner; however, to me this is a minor detail)
Styes: AS = C&J (again, this is pretty subjective)

Can't comment on other construction materials (toe puffs, counter, etc.) since I have never deconstructed my shoes. Personally I think the quality vs. price is fair. C&J HG is slightly higher than AS Ex but maybe that should be expected.

FYI I recently picked up the cherry Moore.

hum, price is not an issue (it is the reason I am tempted, but if I have to cough up more to get better I will, it's another I kind want but don't really need stuff). How are the fit, I am 8.5E UK in both 348/358/337, though would probably appreciate if 348 were more on the wider side. I am on UK9E in MH71 for GG. My left foot is 9E US, my right foot is slightly wider than 9.5D US

For the sale price, I think it's a steal. In the US, AS Ex are >$700 and the quality is on par with the price (in addition to the excellent customer service by both Julian and Sarah @ AFPoS). From my experience, the 109 (Pimlico) and 724 (Moore) are on the more generous end of fits. I am a US 7D (on the wider end of the spectrum) and I can comfortably wear C&J 6E 348/341/337 (with the 337 even roomy for me); 6.5E on G&G TG73 is a nice snug fit. For AS' 109 and 724, I wear UK 6F.

Maybe 8.5F would work for you on AS' 109 and 724? See what others say.

All right time to try out in Leffot this weekend, though my guess is they will be gone by then...

Pediwear said the AS shoes are pretty much true to size, and from my experience, that is the case. As you mentioned that you have wider feet, 724 is probably a safer choice.

But Pimlico is such an elegant derby, a cheaper alternative to CJ Aintree, and James Bond seemed pretty cool wearing the Highbury. satisfied.gif

Hi all,

this may be a little off topic, but this thread seemed to be the best possible place to get an answer.

I have a pair of AS Moore in antique cherry, and I just cannot seem to find a belt to match, not even in the same shade.

Has someone found a matching belt for their antique or vintage Cherry AS shoes?

I'm in the same boat. I have the chestnut Moores and haven't been able to find a matching belt. AE has belts that are close but I've read bad reviews of AE belt quality so can't bring myself to pull the trigger

As long as you have a similar colour and texture, like dark brown to dark brown, mid to mid, and tan to tan, it's perfectly acceptable.

As you mentioned, it's very hard to match the exactly shade, and there are so many shades of brown, and I certainly don't intend to have one belt each to match all of my brown shoes!
