Hi everyone,

Those of us working in the UK have the good fortune of a 4-day weekend Apr 6 - 9 due to Good Friday! I have booked my trip to Barcelona. Any suggestions on shopping (besides Zara)? Really interested to learn more about the local brands and goods (not international chains). Also tips on sightseeing, etc would be greatly appreciated.

I also have a stupid question: Is it possible to learn sailing in 4 days? I've always wanted to do this. I've seen 2 hour sailing courses but I wonder whether they are effective at all? It would be nice to spend a few hours each morning learning this while I am there.

Anyone in Barcelona who would like to meet up, please PM me.

Cheers

PS: I booked British Airways Club Europe/Business class for only GBP300 round trip, which I thought was great, and I'm staying at Hotel Pulitzer, 3 nights for EUR 500..... not bad, no?

Not really "learn", but you'd probably get some pleasant experiences. You wouldn't be qualified to take a boat out by yourself, if that's what you mean.
If you find you like it you can always start to take the classes when you return to the UK.

Sagrada Familia is a must see. Alchemia is a great restaurant, Booli's owner's updating of Catalan cuisine. There's a boutique in the Hotel Arts owned by a larger store in Barcelona, but I can't remember its name. Casinos stink, clubs don't get going till...2am? Something like that, can't remember.

You can't learn to sail a boat solo in a couple of hours, but you should be able to learn how to do a few things: trim sails, tack/jibe etc.

Barcelona is a great/fun city, but keep an eye on your wallet!
