Tie advice

Hi -

I need to get some ties for work. I wear a 15.5/35 shirt, 33x33 pants, and a 42L jacket. I'm 6 foot tall.

I saw these Drake ties being sold by a forum sponsor -- http://store.asuitablewardrobe.net/dottedsilkjacquardnecktiesbydrakeslondon.aspx

These ties come in two sizes 3.25x56 and 3.5x60. Which of these would be considered average for someone of my size?

If anyone has any other suggestions on where to go shopping I'm in the NYC area. I am not looking to spend much more than 140$/tie.

Thanks.

You sure you're a 42l? Are you very athleticly built? In any case either size will be fine, just depends on your preferences on width and how you like to tie your ties. If you always use a fih, the 60" might come out long. If you don't mind waiting, try a custom tie from Sam hober.

I was typically a 41R but recently I got a new sports jacket (canali) and the person helping me out convinced me to go with a 42L.

I'm athletically built -- about 185 pounds. Could that make the difference? I was a bit concerned with going to a long. I am 6'1 not 6 even.

Any advice on where to pick up some ties?

Do your jackets generally have wider or skinnier lapels? You want your ties roughly proportional to your lapels, which should be in proportion to your own width. It would be somewhat unusual but not crazy if you were 15.5 neck, 33 waist, and 42L jacket. Got a picture wearing said jacket? Anyway since you're 6'1 and have 15.5 neck if say go with the 3.25x56. I'm an inch taller than you, neck at least an inch thicker, and the 60s are a tad long for me in that the short end is just a tad shorter than the long end when the long end hits my belt.

Generally I prefer a wider width tie anyway, especially if you're a 42.
