Black shirt with what? I'm so lost....

I just got into Sales job and my new employer hand me two black shirts w/ small company logo (purple&yellow) on the left side chest. They will be my working shirts and he asked me to wear dark pants/jeans with dark shoes... as long as I look professional not sloppy.

I will be working in the shopping centers, face2face customer service and sales. We buy golds.

I don't want to look like high end jewelry salesperson, I want to archive business casual look.

Any idea what should I be wearing with my black colored logo shirts??

Please help since I am new.

casual dark brown shoes would be great, dark brown single or double monks for example.

dark wash jeans, navy if possible.

dont button shirt all the way, you will look stiff

accessorize with a casual watch, bracelet, etc.

Thanks lostron for you tips.

Is it ok to wear a tie without looking too formal? If it's ok, then what kind/color of the tie should I choose?

Standard advice from SF is no tie with black shirt... and black shirts are generally to be avoided.

No tie ever, medium gray khakis or dark jeans (straight cut), black or dark brown shoes.

For pants, do you mean something like this?

Those are more of a charcoal then a mid gray, but yeah, those would be a nice choice.

It looks like you have no choice with the shirt since your boss handed them to you. Just have to work with what you have and pair them with light-colored trousers.

Yes. And tuck your shirt in. Belt should generally match the shoes (brown belt with brown shoes, black with black, but no need to match the exact shade). Socks should match the pants.

His boss said dark pants, and khaki looks awful with black anyway. The only lighter color I would wear with a black shirt would be a light gray.

I also had another thought- olive. Olive khakis are pretty versatile, and olive works well with both black and brown.

The total outfit is will be like this:

  • Black dress shirt
  • Brown wristwatch
  • Brown belt
  • Olive or Gray pants
  • Black socks
  • Brown shoes

Am I good to go? :)

Socks should match the pants. Lots of people do just wear black socks with everything, but it's really not any more trouble to have a few colors, or even a lot of different patterned socks. Medium gray socks to go with the gray, brown or olive to go with the olive, navy to go with jeans or navy.

But yeah, otherwise you're good. And be careful with dockers- they have some nice cuts (the D1 and D2, if the D1 fits- the seat is too small for me, I wear the D2), but they also have some awful ones. Their "regular" and "traditional" D3 and D4 fits are ugly, formless bags of fabric. The quality is actually much better than it used to be, and you're fine there.
