Can I get rid of this rubber heel?

Hi guys,

This might come as an odd question, but I found the below espadrilles ideal for vacation time and they look ground all round, apart from the damn heel!

Do you think a cobbler (shoe repairer) would be able to sand that rubber heel completely off?

Thoughts?

Only if you want to reveal the canvas bottom of the shoe. You cannot "sand" rubber, you would have to cut it. There is the gravest danger that this is not solid as you presume.

The heel can be sanded off. However, it would have to be replaced with another thin piece of thin rubber. Otherwise the roping would be exposed and would begin to fray immediately. Also, the balance would be effected to a point that they may feel awkward

Rather than sand the rubber completely down, I'd probably just have it sanded down until there's just enough rubber left so it is either flush (or very close to being flush) with the rest of the sole. Then I won't need to replace with sole.

Buy another shoe.

That's a really slight heel, why do you care?
