Also there are so many great, truly global brands that have no styleforum credit.

E.g.
- 69 clothing (has a cult following but nil discussion on sf. Much more wearable than the website makes it look.
- Brain Dead - what, an actual streetwear brand on SW&D? (I shouldn't like this brand but I do...also needs to be seen in person to be appreciated)

Brain Dead, from the guy who ran Farm Tactics!

69 Clothing jacket/chore coat thing.

I have never liked chore coats, I didn't really like how they looked and kinda how bland they are without even being anti-fashion.

And then I saw this one in a women's clothing store about 5 years ago while helping my sister shop for a dress. I remember the sales lady helpfully pointing out that it was unisex. I tried it on and loved it immediately.

It is basically the perfect casual jacket. Long, with huge pockets that perfectly fit a book and whatever else you want to carry. Big enough to layer. Hard wearing but soft.

I have probably worn it 2-3 x a week for those 5 years and it still looks fantastic IMO.

About 4 years ago I saw the potential in this velour Nike hoodie, but I'd never really been able to make it work properly, so it's just kinda sat in my closet.

Finally figured it out a couple of months ago. I took it to a tailor and got the waistband and pouch chopped off, so now it's kinda cropped in a good way and the oversized/boxy nature of it actually looks good in fits, rather than having this weird pear shape with the waistband.

6 and a half years. Each summer after the first I told myself I was going to buy a fresh pair but never did because I very much dislike pure white super new sneakers. These are perfect to me and if I could I’d keep them forever. The only reason they are being retired is I’ve worn down the sole so much the footbed is exposed in certain spots and even a small puddle gets through to my socks now. Thank you for your service. 🫡

Not being retired in any sense but I pulled on this pair of jeans today and realized they are coming up on an 8 year anniversary. These were by first “real” pair of selvage jeans, a Self edge / 3sixteen collaboration. 15.5 oz denim in, what at the time was an unusual, straight tapered cut. In the moment I was slightly unhappy that they were not slimmer (ha!) and they were a bit of a bear to break in but I wore them everywhere for a while and then ignored them for awhile but always kept them around. There are holes, pulled stitching, and a few places that are darned from blowouts but they still (thankfully!) fit really well and will be kept around until they basically completely disintegrate.

random contentedness thought:

Could everyone please STFU about their "minimalist/capsule wardrobes".

- you're full of ****, most of this is stuff that you've been into for less the 2 years and just happens to be at the same time that the minimalist thing is everywhere
- IT'S OK TO LIKE FASHION
- The point here is to like and enjoy your clothes, not to make them some weird project
- it's the same with those "10 essentials" lists. It just makes you think about things you don't have rather than things that you do.

thanks :)

nah but seriously if minimalism is your thing that's ok too I just want people to like themselves.

Fashion done the right way is simply about spreading new ideas or offering fresh takes on old ideas.

Why would you want to close yourself off from new ideas?

I get wanting a simple style, and I've heard the whole decision fatigue thing. That's ok too, you don't have to make things complex or whatever. In fact one of my favourite brands is one of these so called minimalist brands (and they even champion it in their press releases which I kinda find hilarious). That's ok, you can have a simple style but still actually enjoy nice clothes.

But there's also a bunch of smart, creative people whose literal profession it is to make cool, interesting clothes. That is a fantastic thing, and the fact that we have access to that (whether it's on the high fashion end or a local tailor or just local streetwear trends) is just such a beautiful thing.

My Artisanal Margiela painted denim jacket. Jacket is from 01 or 02 but I was lucky to get it brand new some years back and it’s still the grail in my closet and it’s actually wearable. Gives me that Margiela nostalgia I first fell in love with around 2011

Honestly, for me, I have a harder time putting together an outfit with more clothes in my closet. I’ve probably gotten rid of 1/3-1/2 of my wardrobe over the past two years and, yes, I am much more content. At this point, I only own stuff that I love wearing.
