digital watches with suits

Thread Starter

I am curious to know what people here think about wearing digital watches with suits or just wearing them in general with casual clothes. There seems to be a trend of people wearing digital watches with suits who are trying to come off as unassuming or to avoid scrutiny. Here are two examples:

the first one is almost amusing because the guy wearing the polar is billionaire Roman Abramovich who among lots of extravagant possessions owns the largest yacht in the world, but he wears a cheap plastic digital watch

the second is Henry Paulson who was the US Treasury Secretary, and before that he was CEO of Goldman Sachs. Its alittle more understandable why he would wear a timex since an analog watch (even if its cheap) could come off "fancy" and that could send the wrong message

but in general what do you guys think, would you wear a digital watch with a suit if you thought it could make you more likeable?

I don't even understand the point of a digital watch anymore. Just look at your cell phone. Modern watches essentially serve as jewely, and a wearing a digial watch is the equivalent of wearing children's plastic jewelry. If you are concerned about coming off as too flashy, even with a $50 analog watch, then just skip it altogether.

I wear a digital watch when I run, but it's also my watch for running errands and working around the house. My cell phone isn't always with me or accessible, so the watch works well. I'd never wear it with a suit, but I see others doing it often, especially among guys who run or cycle.

you shouldnt wear things because they are trendy, or because they'll make you likeable. you should wear things because you enjoy them.

you are also not henry paulson and are not subjected to his level of scrutiny

Abramovich's watch looks like a heart rate monitor, propably wi-fi connected to the smartphone of his private medic biggrin.gif

If you want to wear a digital watch then do so. There is no reason why not (though some will create one) but it has nothing to do with being "likeable" (or more so).

In reality you are simply making something up here which does not exist, for reasons which are unfathomable.

Something like that I would be okay with on a charcoal or gray suit.

Looks that pic worked.

In any case it looks a little tacky with a suit in a serious setting.

If I was going to wear a digital watch with a suit, it would be those of the older design type, you know the red crystal type where you have to push a button for it to light up? I'm not keen on those multifunctional digital watches that always display the time, turn into a scientific calculator and chime every 15 minutes.

As for me, to be honest, I rarely wear a watch anymore - digital, analog, whatever. Maybe it's because I've fallen in love with my cellphone which I take with me everywhere and where most of my data are stored (not exactly ideal, I know).
