What is the best tie knot?

Pretty anorexic. I think it looks alright. But as you can tell by my other posts, I'm new here.

Although I do know this.

Never wear that with any other knot than a FIH.

A Mexican tie, I've got one in silver. To be honest I prefer just leave the top button open. Perhaps also used in the southern most US states?

Off-topic: The cowboy hat will be thick cow leather. I don't like the look of this one (I prefer my hats) but they are incredibly effective at staying cool by blocking the sun. I prefer them to Panama hats, very different way of staying cool, but not widely accepted even if they can be very high quality.

See, on the or hand, I agree with you, that appears to be the consensus on this forum... but on the other, as you said, you're new, and I'd be more inclined to take that advice from one of the regulars... I personally just can't help myself but to Windsor everything because I have an OCD preference for symmetry.

The FIH comment was actually learned from my dad, who dresses pretty timeless. And it's the general consensus on the forum.

The only common member I know of that consistently does not do a FIH is Stitchy, whom ties a half windsor if I remember correctly. And I'm pretty sure even he, if ever dawning a 2" tie like yours, would not use a Windsor for it.

I mean, if you gotta gotta gotta go symmetrical, go with the shell knot on something so small. Not sure why that dudes isn't symmetrical, mine is when I do it. Don't mind the stubbly hair.

That collar is asking for some kind of Windsor for sure, but not a tie so skinny. It's pleading for something bigger. A shell knot on any tie may look goofy with that. You just need a wider tie. Period.

also agreed. I was feeling a bit tongue-in-cheeky this morning when I decided to go with spread collar and fat-knot-skinny-tie

the FIH is the worst knot in the history of bad knots imo, and it's NOT the general consensus on the forum. I use the Pratt/Shelby knot exclusively, which looks very much like the shell knot you've posted. god I hate the FIH - it's asymmetrical and lazy

I'm a Pratt guy, but the FiH does have its place- stuff like wool ties and knits just form way too huge a knot with anything else.

The FIH is far and away the best knot IMO. The Pratt is OK, and the (full) Windsor is an abomination.

why do you consider the FIH the best knot? I guess I don't understand how it's considered stylish, even by SF members. the Pratt is symmetrical and works with spread and point collars, so it's very versatile imo.

Most FiH lovers, including me, consider the asymmetry an advantage. Tie-tying has long been an art of balancing neatness with an air of carelessness. Brummell supposedly spent hours getting his cravat tied with just the right level of insouciance, discarding dozens of neckties wrinkled by a false attempt. A symmetric knot just looks too fastidious.

Also, 90% of Windsors are entirely too large. It looks like you have a grapefruit or something hanging from your neck.
