I think you quoted the wrong person, but 34 sounds about right in W+H bottom for that guy.

Really? The guy stated that he usually wears "a size 35 in J Crew and 36 in Epaulet chinos." From comparing the Epaulet and W+H sizing charts, it seems that the Epaulet rivet chinos fit about the same as the Westpoint chinos. How then should he size down to a 34 in the W+H chinos. I'd think he'd go TTS with the W+H westpoints.
Just curious because I recently (five hours ago) ordered a pair of Westpoint chinos and I normally size up in Epaulet rivet chinos (31) and ended up ordering a 30 with the Westpoints
I've only tried on a pair of epaulet in 33, was too small and really needed like a 34. I take a 31 in most W+H like jeans and probably 32 in their westpoint chinos. YMMV I suppose, but that's been my experience.

W+H is slimmer ... tapers more aggresively by a longshot
Size charts show that the taper is the only different thing. Epaulet is 'slim straight' after all. That's why I was wondering why people wouldn't get the same size in both. I only went one size lower in W+H because I wanted something super slim.

Unless your blind, isn't it obvious by those size charts that wings and horns are much roomier!?
I just got the W+H westpoint chinos that I ordered. I'm about a 30 waist and usually size up to a 31 for Epaulet rivet chinos. I'm not necessarily 'muscular' but I spent years as a powerlifter and I continue to lift weights albeit just not "seriously." Here's the thing, the chinos fit PERFECTLY around the thighs, knee, and they taper wonderfully...BUT, the waist is about a size too big as some of you suggested. However, I really can't size "down" (back to my original size) because the thighs are practically skin tight. I basically won't be able to get my thighs into a 30 (or 29) Westpoint chino. So given what I said, should I return them and just accept that W+H isn't for me, get used to wearing belts, or have a tailor bring in the waist.
Really, these chinos fit great (aka slim), but they're just too big around the waist and I can't size down because I then won't be able to fit into them anymore. What do you suggest?
a. return them and just accept that W+H isn't for me
b. get used to wearing belts
c. have a tailor bring in the waist.
You could have just got the anti-fits in a 30. They give more room in the thighs without having a big waist. Not sure if they made them this season or if many are carrying them, but these are the ones acrimony has:

No, I like it 'skin tight' around the thighs and need a pair of skinny chinos. The ONLY issue is the waist.
Oh, when I say it's 'skin tight', I mean like following pic.
Of course, this depends on where I wear the pants on my waist. If I wear it 1 - 2' below my navel as I usually do, it looks as below. If I wear it even lower then it become a bit more baggier and the waist becomes even bigger (I have a bit of baby fat but am on a cut)
I agree with this. And since they are 100% cotton and a pretty sturdy fabric, they won't stretch to accommodate the thighs much if you slim down. amathew, if you want a skinnier fit in these, maybe superset them squats on your cut with some dumbell lunges and lean up those thighs on your cut!...then size down one
