Grey suit with black bowtie? (Tod's, suspenders)

I got a few questions:
I am having my graduation ball next weekend (like prom in the US). Is it appropriate to wear a black bowtie to a dark grey suit (with white shirt an black shoes of course)? Most people just wear a suit with tie, it is not a black tie event, I am just wondering whether this combination is ok?
Also could I wear red and blue striped suspender with this?

I am also planning to buy tods or driver shoes, what color could you recommend me?

Thanks for any answer!

(great forum btw!)

No, it would not be fine - it would look dreadful and nothing more inappropriate has been posted here to my recollection..

The event is not 'black tie' so wear the suit with a 'normal' tie. A black bow tie is to be worn with evening dress only. You can wear whatever colour braces you want (no one will be too hard or care at such an event) but you must really keep the coat on all evening.

Thanks for the responses!
In that case, I think I am going to make good use of the free express shipping they have at Mr Porter right now ;)
And just try a few shoecolours in the shop.
