Choosing my first proper good pair of Brown shoes...

Hey guys,

I've been thinking abou getting my first proper good pair of brown shoes, something that I can wear with Jeans, Khakis or a even a suit... although, honestly, I will mostly pair them with some solid colored jeans, probably deep blue or black.

I've reading a lot, and my top budget is probably $600, I have been looking, almost bought a pair of Harris from Barney's, but decided they were too dark, so, these are the two I have so far

I have also seen some Ferragamo's, D&G and other, but nothing that really blows my mind.

Any suggestions or opinions?, thanks! biggrin.gif

Not really keen on the styling of Italian shoes, as well as their construction. Why not American / English?

I don't like rapid / blake construction as compared to goodyear. For me the styling of English shoes is superior, as well.

Can't go wrong with Carmina, especially at the $600 price point that you have. I can almost bet Carmina has better quality than D&G etc.

+1 In addition, I don't feel as though the shoes pictured will work well with denim.

Are you in the US? I'm assuming so if you're looking at Barneys. Carmina's are great but Crockett & Jones are right around the $600 mark too, and Barneys usually carries a few different styles of C&J. If you're near NYC or Chicago, Paul Stuart has some great shoes as well (mostly made by Grenson, Crockett & Jones, etc):
http://www.paulstuart.com/category_template_viewall.cfm?ProdCatId=1008&subProdCatId=0&MainCatId=14&headermenuid=1
... and the C&J store on 56th St. in NYC is also great.
Of course Brooks Brothers "Peal & Co" line is also around your price point as well and you probably have a store nearby:

The "Peal & Co" shoes are generally made by either Alfred Sargent or Crockett & Jones. You can tell by nail pattern on the heel. This one is C&J:

I can't find a pic of the heel, but I have these (if they are the same from last summer) and they are Alfred Sargent:
