Tailoring Advice Needed: Shortening Sleeve - Distance between last button & end of sleeve will be .5

Gentlemen,

I need some advice on tailoring my suit. The sleeves needs to be shortened by an inch.

  • Current distance between the last button & end of sleeve = 1.5"
  • I need to remove 1" of the Sleeve - will change the distance between the last button and end of sleeve to .5"
  • The sleeves are non-functional

Here's a photo:


Now is .5" way too small of a distance? Since it's non-functional, would it be the norm for the tailor to remove the button button and place it on top?

My personal opinion is hat you need at the very minimum an inch space, ideally at least an inch and a half between the bottom button and the sleeve.
But if the buttons are non functional then the point is moot as any decent seamstress can move the buttons up. It's only an issue for surgeons' cuffs.

It's probably too small of a distance, but it won't be a problem at all for the tailor to move the buttons. As you posited, he will probably just move the farthest button to be in the nearest position.

with nonfunctional buttons, they are always removed when adjusting the sleeve length.
yes all of them are removed, and then re-spaced.
the distance from the bottom is any where from an inch to two inches.
i like the inch and three quarter look.

At least an inch.

Thanks, I'll probably go with a 1.5" again or 1.25"
