PSA: EG (Edward Green) and G&G (Gaziano & Girling) 50% off at RL - Page 7

I dont think RL sells the lasted trees anymore - the mahogany ones.

There was actually a better sale around X-Mas - $540 for EGs although I dont think the G&Gs were on sale then.

As far as the offerings go - its a mixed bag but obviously it all depends on personal preference. And if you dont like the 89 or 888, then these wont do anything for you. Some unique RL stuff (they seem to like the captoe sans medallion) but some pretty standard EG models also. The Dover boot (I know I sound like a broken record) looks great and the longwing and blucher are standard EG offerings, I think.

I remember the longwings in the chocolate brown with the suede were in the $500 range in the Chicago store around xmas time. Only had a US11, which was slightly too big for me.

I usually have the SA at the mansion check other stores for trees and have them shipped to my home. Once they found me a pair in Philly (I think) and another time Houston (I think). I don't think I ever got them on sale, tho.

Yep, someone else here mentioned to me a few months ago that the Beverly Hills shop held a pair of mohagony trees for him that were left over from a store display. It sounds like they're not stocking the mohagony trees with any kind of regularity though. They definitely were not included with the last 3 pairs that I've picked up.

I just think at some point someone realized it doesnt make sense to include trees like that if you can still sell the shoes for more without them.

My $12 cedar trees from Nordstrom Rack fill out the EG longwings quite nicely - I just don't see a need for a lasted tree. They normally don't apply enough outward pressure anyways.

That's not what's important imo. It's where the stress is applied. The trees that I use apply stress evenly throughout the mid sole, heel, and toe box, causing outward tension that effectively smooths the creases in the vamp to my desired state. Lasted trees typically don't apply enough stress where it matters most, and Vass is a prime example of that. Even if the tree is touching the vamp, there's no outward force being applied in that direction, nulling any positive effects. Ymmv of course.

^^^^ Isn't this stress issue resolved by sizing up a half to full size on the shoe tree? I believe that is what I was told once but I forget by whom - perhaps during a factory visit.

Possibly yes, but again, I get the same effect with a $12 cedar shoe tree. It's simple mechanics tbh

Just sayin'....

Looks slightly chunky on the last, the leather looks flat
The stitching looks doveresque - fantastic for a boot, but not a loafer. The loafers would look fantastic on the 89 last though

Those look awesome. Different shoe though

I am sure the ones pictured are equally cool - the one with the twist. Just bad photo. How did you get them to throw in trees?
