I particularly like Blair's three button cuff, Rupert Murdoch's tie, Hugh Grant's blue on blue on blue, and how Jay QC can't dress to save his life despite living in a suit for 30 years

Blair by a small margin on Grant.

Murdoch is not English.

Murdoch is Australian ,American ,saviour of the British society...

Murdoch is just whatever his commercial interests tell him to be..

I think Ian Hislop deserves a mention - he actually turned up wearing a fedora:

Jack Straw (6th photo down, former Foreign Secretary) and Jay QC are nearest to the real British conservative business dress mainstream (and not necessarily in a good way).

The Murdochs are international Australian/Americans,

Tony Blair is professional politician schooled in the transatlantic blue suit, white shirt, plain tie modern politician style and now an international statesman.

Andy Coulson (pic 5) is a modern media executive/government spokesman.

Hugh Grant is a sleb and Jeremy Paxman a TV personality.

So most of the people you are looking at have at some time paid money to PR people who say "TV appearance: blue/charcoal SB suit; white or blue shirt, plain blue tie" and then sent an invoice. The better ones worked it out themselves.

What this really shows is how a transnational transatlantic style has been adopted by the public end of the British Establishment and most of the New Establishment where media meets politics. Blair's 3-button cuff and covered placket shirt front even got commented on negatively by a British political journalist on Twitter (obviously not recognising the former as a T&A signature style, though widely copied).

My point being: set aside nationalities, this is not "British" conservative business dress. The British bits in it are the non-blue coloured shirts (Straw, Jay?), and the non-plain ties (Straw, Jay, Paxman). Whether it is a good look is a different discussion.

Hislop by contrast is a maverick - though lovable - journalist, he wears hats because he has been bald since his 20s, and both does not and has no reason to give a flying toss about his image.

I love Hislop, but his wardrobe is the frequent butt of jokes on Have I Got News. While he may wear a navy suit to court, he'll sometimes show up for a recording in a stripped boating blazer. And it's best not to mention the ties.

Ya,

I think Murdoch would look really good in one of those white boiler suits with black arrows pointing upwards.

The perfect dress for a gigantic dishonest prick like him.

Time for a bump for this one, I think.

John Major does pale blue tie on pale blue shirt...

Not sure of Major's blue on blue combo..

He was a politician who put his country's interests before his...

Not like that bunch of spineless puppets..

I always have had, and always will have a lot of time for John Major. I think that compared to a lot of modern politicians, he is a relatively good dresser. I actually met him once, very briefly.

Most interesting outfit was Rebekah Brooks Little Orphan Annie look.

Jay is something of a cult hero now.... and an Elvis Costello lookalike
