Their "Classic" line shoes are still decently constructed, even though I observed that leather quality and detailing has gone down between my first purchase 5 years ago and the last one about one year ago. They are the entry level into good shoes, but nothing special.

Depressing. Ever since I have been aware of ther brand- about 40 years- they have prduced
solid, boring, well-made shoes, informed by what I call a "Midwestern aesthetic. I used to
wear their long gone Viking 1 model.and the classical Saratoga. They fit my wide feet perfectly.
Over the years the firm has attempted to inject more style into their line- usually with
poor results. But they never went for "junk "- until now.

Bump, well, so you said that the N&L products selling on HoF are gabbage, but what if I buy their items on their official webpage: http://www.newandlingwood.com/ what do you think? Are they good and worth for money?

Are you sure you are even posting in the correct thread?

The OP spoke about New & Lingwood and the use of their brand name on cheap garments. And no, they do not only have 2 outlets, they have a thriving export division catering for clients throughout the English speaking world for more than 150 years already, especially those countries where alumni from prestigious English schools like Eton come from.

We are talking South Africa, India, Botswana, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Burma, Australia,The Kingdom of Swaziland, Lesotho, New Zealand, Caledonia, Zululand, Fiji, Cook Islands, Tonga, St Helena, Canada etc etc etc etc and the list goes on and on, and yes, they even have clients in the USA.

I think you could say that their influence is considerably broader and wider than anything Allen Edmonds could boast, their name and reputation certainly spreads further across the planet than AE and they have been going for a heck of a lot longer too.

How many old boys are there in St Helena or Tonga? You sound like one of those morons
on the Board of Trade in the 60s and the 70s who boasted of British Auto exports to such places
while the Bristish Auto industry was entereing a tailspin. So today jaguar is owned by
Tata ( India) Rolls by BMW and Bentley by Volkswagen. The rest of the market is dominated
by Ford, Honda, etc. .

I fell victim to this unpleasant decision from N&L. I ordered an odd jacket as the price was right. What I ended up with was mixed fabrics, huge shoulders, low armholes and a horrible deal throughout. These things must be killed with fire.

Did you buy your jacket from their official website or on HoF site? I kind of like these jackets here: http://www.newandlingwood.com/shop/tailoring/jackets

But I think the length is a little bit too long and I don't like the shoulder. Could you take some pics of your jacket?

New & Lingwood is excellent, and the persons who work there are decent and striving to do their best. Why N&L has a Doppelgänger I don't know, but anyone can recognise the difference with a little effort. I 💘 New & Lingwood's clothes and their salespersons!

PS: Justin Sumrie, whose sartorial advice was superb, has a talented successor, Simon Maloney; there were highly professional salesmen - Colin Austin, Micharl Howelett, Michael Blackwell, younger original Thomas Bauer, and a younger generation of earnest persons in Piccadilly as well as sweet ladies in Eton. Paul Kennedy is responsible for the new website and full of initiative.
