Meierles is a good midfielder but they don't have what they need to win the tournament--they are not at all creative. Without a striker the best teams can contain even a Ronaldo and Nani duo.

My feeling is that the high watermark for this generation of Dutch footballers came seconds before De Jong's karate kick.

I'm afraid so. And they showed 'us' a few months ago how well they can counter attack.

You have to be patient and not opening too much your defense to counter attacks..

Look what Spain tried.... that right there is a example of having stars across midfield being relatively ineffective. Ronaldo and Nani are miles ahead of any other pair of wingers and will not be able to do shit until someone threatens at the point. Play that kid Olivera, he was fantastic in the last U-* world cup. Cant be worse than Postiga.

For me, Di Rossi has been the best player I have seen so far. He was brilliant against Spain.

Germany is a weird team to predict. I think they could easily lose this by a big margin or win it by a big margin or have it close. I dont think they have a solid enough defense to be able to sit back and close their area. Most of their players are heavily attack minded

Damn that was quick

Woke up late and only got the game on. Can't believe that this isn't 0-0. Throws a whole new dimension into the group. Poland need to pull through today then to keep hope alive.

I agree that Portugal's midfield is solid, but there's no transitional player who can take the ball and make some space. At this rate, I'm not totally opposed to having Oliveira at RW, Nani on the left, and Ronaldo as a deeper lying striker (so as to have space to turn and run at the defense). I know it was really ineffective to have him at point during WC2010, but he's been on fire form-wise this last season. Get him up top, get him the ball close to the box. Let him kick it.

SHA - would be fantastically bad to see violence errupt w/ a Russian beat down of the hosts today. Memorable, but no one wants to see that.

I think Schevchenko has more goals in him for the tournament. It's his sendoff, the only time in front of his home fans in an international tournament. Ukraine pulls off one upset, and they've won the group.

Not really though are they? Even if they loose today a win against the Czechs will get them through.
