Michael Chopra ? In any case, it's not surprising they are overrepresented is it ? The alternative is marsupialed ideas like quota systems they talked about in france, their team would be so bad ... And to fill the asian quota they'd have to keep the likes of dhorasoo haha

The quotagate was about a different problem..

France is developping a lot of French players , most of them born and bred in France ,who choose to play for a different national team later on...

What is the point to develop and invest in players if they will not play for us later on?

Youngsters must be forced at the age of 18 to pick up a shirt and not being able to switch at senior level..

The problem is even worse at rugby ...

The erason that's a bad argument is because they are not choosing other countries over france but they don't make the french team so explore other options. By and large, the vast majority would pick to represent france and not some random arab/african team that has far less "glory" attached to it. So you can pick first to get the best, the rest go to their parents' countries.

You must have missed the part where I mentioned that nearly a third of the squad are black, despite blacks only making up 2 or 3 per cent of the population of the UK.

That is irrelevant to the question of what they should makeup in the Euro squad unless you are a believer in quotas. And, yes, I missed that so you are making you your usual nonsense.

Greece hasn't done anything for themselves, but those two yellows were garbage.

Judging from the opening match so far, we can expect refereeing ala WC2010.

Same as Ireland under Big Jack or the top clubs taking on several squads of 7 year olds and only 1 or 2 a year ever making a single appearance for the first team.

Very soft red card that.

lol the second crappiest squad in the tourney down to 10 in a match where they're playing like a bunch of reserves. Agreed the cards are a joke, but that's what you get when you play a ref who gave 16 reds in 19 games officiated. Always had Poland winning this one, but with this they should be able to get some real momentum and I'd like to see 3-0 at the end

Yeah, don't agree w/ these cards at all.

I'm really disenchanted w/ the pick-and-choose aspect of playing for a specific country nationally. I respect parentage and immigration and how that takes on a whole new meaning in the post-modern world, but I personally think you should only be eligible for the country in which you were born or legitimate overseas possessions (ala military bases, etc). I know that would make Higuaín a French striker, but I'll stick by it. It just creates a host of allegiance problems, questions of loyalty vs. sporting ambition, diffusion of talent because a certain national team is stacked, etc. I mean, Marcos Senna wouldn't have made the Brazil squad during his career, so he becomes a Spaniard (pre Spain glory). My suspicion on Klose is that he didn't believe in a chance of glory w/ Poland and therefore declared for Germany (although I readily admit I could be completely off on this one).

I mean, situations like this are just ludicrous to me: Neven Subotic

Full squad
Subotić was eligible to represent the United States, Serbia,[2] or Bosnia-Herzegovina.[8][9] During September 2008, when the issue of his national team eligibility first started getting wider coverage in the football media, playing for Croatia or even Germany[10] were mentioned as possibilities as well, however both options were soon revealed to be media concoctions more than anything else. Bosnia-Herzegovina fell out of the running early as Subotić publicly rejected overtures by the country's football officials and head coach Miroslav Blažević.[11][12]
By late fall 2008, it became clear that only Serbia figured in his international choice. Citing sources close to Subotić's family, many reports in the Serbian press appeared about his decision to play for Serbia already being made, but waiting for the right moment to state it publicly since he had until 10 December 2009 (his 21st birthday) to declare his choice. In mid December 2008 Subotić informed national team head coach Radomir Antić about his decision to represent Serbia.[4][13] Then in late December 2008, Subotić notified US Soccer Federation about his decision – the first official step in the process of changing national team attachment.[14]

In this case, despite me desiring a world class defender for the USA, it came out right him declaring for Serbia. But the mere possibility that he could declare between 5 nations makes this about far more than simply national pride. How would France look, for instance, in a more strict world?
