QFT.

When a man refers to his wife as "Mi negrita," My nigg__ is the absolute last possible translation of that phrase.

[=RANT] Some related ramblings in no particular order.

People w/ small minds like to spin whatever they can into giant social issues. Happens in the US, happens in Europe, happens anywhere there's a traditional conflict between the homogenous population and an other. Insecure people just have this itching need to find any justification possible to try to bring those two groups onto equal ground.

Does years and years of cultural upbringing and social history affect the use of language? = yes.
Are African(Americans) in general as well considered/respected/treated as a lighter skinned person in whatever country you're addressing? - No, probably not.
Does this mean that the entire population by association is a die-hard racist? = no.
Is describing someone for what they are, ie black/white, in any way meant to be offensive? = no.
Does utilizing your own nation's language, with all of its nuances and history imply racist thought? = no.
Does a GoogleTranslate version of a foreign phrase convey context, etymology, or linguistic subtlety? = no.

Does racism still exist? = yes.
Is there really anything we can do about it? = no.

this Burkina-Ghana game is wildly entertaining, I'm a little mad I didn't start watching the ANC until the semis...

Full disclosure, not a Milan supporter and hate Sylvio Berlusconi.

Paolo Berlusconi referred to Balotelli as the "black sheep of the family" this does not in any way translate to the family's little n****r as is being reported. Who ever said that is an idiot who has no idea what they are talking about. He also referred to him as a "hot head" - referring to his history of losing it on the field.

A black sheep i.e. troublemaker, i.e. someone who is always running afoul of the family etc. A normal phrase that is also...wait for it...applied to white people.

The Italian media is not making much of an issue of this, but is somewhat reacting to the idiocy the illiterate english speaking media is making of it. The only comments in Italian media was a bit of a debate as to whether Berlusconi or anyone should continue bringing up Balotelli's past instead of giving him a fresh start etc.

With all the big friendlies today, why is ESPN and the Brit media wasting space on this non issue?

Result today or not, USMNT is vastly better than Honduras.

Otherwise you may as well claim Celtic better than Barça, or any number of surprises over all of the sport's history.

The whole Balotelli thing is absurd. It's sadly typical that the "Diversity" crowd is insisting on judging this incident by Amerikkkan standards.

ESPN will not let the Balotelli thing go.

They go so far as to claim complete outrage in Italy. I believe we had someone say here that Italy paid no attention whatsoever to the, in fact, non-racial-slur.

So much facepalm.gif

If this was racism I would be all over it.

One must realize in Italy the only press making anything of it are doing so for political reasons. Anti Berlusconi types to be honest. Hell I am anti Berlusconi big time but I draw the line at making shit up.

Plus this is making an an entire country look boorish and while Italy has issue with race relations it is probably no worse than than pretty much any other place. Racism exists, it is garbage and we should fight it but making up issues where non exist actually works against that goal.

It is also interesting that Balotelli has said nothing much of it and the two are seen at the training ground together laughing etc.
