i agree he's not the worst but honestly the amount he spent over the past decade that's really not much of a return on investment ...

yep, none of which would have happened without him in all likelihood. Think how different things would have been if Roman had bought Fulham, Spurs, Charlton, etc instead.

also Chelsea won the league 3x under the Russian not just 2x, seems long ago though.

lol well if you have to ask ... we're actually in a surplus in the transfer market since 2006 or so, new stadium is paid off, and well under the fair play limits that will never actually be enforced. new sponsorship deal with adidas puts us above most clubs too (finally, after that joke of a rushed deal that was worth less than crystal palace...)

so if in the next 10 years, roman's oil firms are reappropriated by the USSR, manU debts are called in, the sheikh gets bored and sells mancity for pennies to the residents of manchester, etc etc., we will be in prime position to take over the EPL

We might be seeing the emergence of quite the star in El Shaarawy. He appears to be backing up if not stepping up last year's promising moments.

It was not a question of return on investment (which would be looking at success from Roman's POV), but a question of Roman's effect on Chelsea, which has been undeniably positive.

yeah but that can be said for other clubs that got a sudden injection of billions with uncontrollable spending habbits on top players. mancity from anonimty to EPL champions, PSG from battling relegation to a title contender and in quarters of CL, Madrid during Franco era and bed buddies with spanish banks during perez ownership, i just don't think it's anything unique to abramovich but his cash. if anything a less mentally unstable owner would have achieved a great deal more with these resources

Again, it's not really a question of any unique quality of Roman's, other than the fact that he's consistently poured millions upon millions into the club. Compare pre-Roman CFC to post-Roman CFC and the results are undeniable: Chelsea has become a much more successful, larger, more relevant club under Roman's ownership.
