Saying that because I love madrid i'm automatically a neofascist, about as accurate as saying loving Barca makes you a catalan separatist.  Seriously most Catalans are second only to parisians in their elitist snobbery. GTFO

Benfica v Barca was an entertaining game and I think Barca looked very strong in the second half. Not surprising that some of that magic from Messi was behind both goals. The Puyol injury looked awful and I guess they will be back to a Song / Mascherano defense now? Sooner or later Barca will be playing 11 midfielders.

BATE Borisov's win against Bayern Munich was the most pleasing result of the night. The local Belarusian tractor factory workers team humiliated the spoiled multimillionaires of Munich. Brilliant!!

New York rang-. You think Juventus is the only rotten team in Italy? Do you really think their fans are worse than any other teams fans? How about you just watch MLS.

No, but they are the ones who spew their Lega Nord bullshit loader than others. Sounds to me that your defending racism here. I've never been prouder than in the Cup final when the Partenopei jeered the Italian National Anthem to the point it was barely audible, and of course we were fined heavily, but Juve fans sing and chant all sorts of anti Southern-crap and get nothing...

I also think that ElArg was being sarcastic with his comments...

One has to be impressed by what this team has achieved in that little of time and with that little of money.

Grizzly- MLS Doesn't have "hooligans"or "Ultras" that mean anything. That's why I suggested to Ranger to watch it.

NYR- Don't put words in my mouth or assume you know what I support or don't support.
Football "Hooligans" and Ultras are a part of the game that has been around long before you even knew, football.
The reason I wrote what I did was so that the issue could be dropped. Keep your comments to yourself.
We have had this discussion before. I believe it was Burton who said when he goes to a footy match " I keep my team spirit and head low".
He's a smart man.
It seems to me you are trying to start shit when I was only trying to move off the topic.
For the record I don't support racism and it's kinda sickening of what this world has become.

NewYorkRanger - I completely empathize with your frustration and I share it regarding the double standard towards fan behavior. I do, however, separate my love of the game, individual players and actual team history and the racist/neo-fascist behavior that fans both north and south display. I did notice the straight armed salute by some Napoli supporters.

As an Italian, that period of our history is something I find more than shameful but all I can do is be the total opposite in my life as I am sure you do.

Also agree that the unification was terrible for the south and as a result one of the worst things that occurred to the Italian people as a whole. Second worst thing that happened to the Italian culture was the State of New Jersey. Decentralizing the state would benefit all.

Again I try to separate my football and politics as much as possible, the fact that I as an ethnic southerner can support a northern team shows that. My hate towards rivals only goes so far, just enough to add some passion to watching the match.

Hell - you hate Juve and have made disparaging remarks about Canuck fans and Van hockey culture but I would gladly talk to you amicably.

romafan - bitter about that incident in Cagliari last week? -so am I, at least you got three points.

Not bitter about stadium SNAFU - grateful to get 3 points ! Am bitter how Bruno Conte's son & co. have foiled us the past few meetings - they took both fixtures last year, and that 5-1 massacre to start the 2010/11 season is still painful to think about.

NYR - financial police raid Napoli's headquarters!

NYR is a City fan and I am a United fan but we are in complete agreement on the racism issue. The football organizations do not take this issue serious enough. I am not going to pin the term "racist" on a particular set of fans--I have already pointed out that I believe each team has their bad actors. That said, I am not going to keep my opinion to myself here about how I feel on the issue. If the mods don't like me making a simple statement that I believe the racism ruins the game then they can ban me.

That's only because you are safe behind your computer. At a match or pub I seriously doubt your words would fly so liberally. What is the football organizations do? Most are corrupt. You have players, coaches, and big dollar companies that support certain "firms"and their actions. It's interwoven into the fabric of the game. Solve religious and political tension first. That would be a good start.
Friendly banter is one thing but you can cross that line without even knowing it and "good night Irene". You know this.
I denounce racism. It's really a fucked up thing and to insinuate that someone is "defending racism" it isn't easily dismissed.

You can add me to the agreement that the clubs do not do enough. I do, however, do not pin the source of the issue on them as some seem to suggest or refer to the club as rascist etc.. When I complain about the racism, I clearly point out it is the ultras of that club, not insinuating it is the club itself. Hope that makes sense.

As a general comment the history of clubs like Real and Lazio being closely associated with Fascist elements in their country is history and just that. As an Italian I don't want to be forever labeled a Fascist because of a disgraceful 20 odd year period of history (nor would any German) and the clubs should be treated likewise imo. So while we like to throw around insults (and I am guilty of it), we need to be careful not to generalize and paint people or their clubs. Off soapbox now.

Back to football, it is Champions League week afterall. Not impressed with yesterdays showing by Juve.

romafan- Yes, how could I forget, thanks to Roma it was our only moments of glory in yet another fruitless season for the Rossoblu.
