Don't know what the hell Hulk is thinking. I'd rather stay in Porto. I never understood why players choose to fade into the obscurity of the Russian league. Yeah, there's the wages, but I couldn't give less of a shit about wages if it meant I had to live in Russia.

This. I think the fact that the Russian transfer window is different sucks. How many guys who DIDN'T move to Russia could have earned their clubs more $$ and been playing at a higher level if the agents didn't have the Russian league as their ace in the hole, but wound up staying put.

Not the only transfer window that is different. The French and Turkish leagues also end at different times. In fact, Chelsea just sold Raul Meireles to Fenerbahce.

That miereles deal is a head scratcher. He was a valuable player who could really help during the long season with multiple competitions.

The Chelsea board I lurk speculated that they are trying to make room to pick up Falcao in January by moving on players who are not part of the long term plan.

Maybe the idea is to accellerate oscar's development by giving him all the minutes Raul would have gotten. But that is putting a lot of pressure on Oscar, who would be shifting to a deeper position than he is used to.

I am still sorting this out tbh. I would have kept him.

I think you may be right about Oscar. Ramires could be used to fill that position too with Mikel stays deeper.

I think Meireles was unhappy with AVB being sacked and wanted to leave, but it does seem odd that he left this late.

I think he thought he had a guaranteed spot to come back to United - do not believe that spot is open any longer.

They don't really need him, and he's not that good. In center mid they have Lampard, Ramires, Romeu, and Mikel. Plus, they could always recall Essien or McEachran from their loan.

I became an instant fan of him as soon as he stepped out on the pitch for the reds. But then he transferred to Madrid and it seemed that he wanted to be there more than anywhere else.

Some people are commenting that he´s not glad that a lot of his teammates (Casillas, Ramos, etc.) are  happy to see Iniesta (a fellow Spaniard and national selection partner of many) win the Best European player award

Finally found him, the best Italian commentator, InterTV's Roberto Scarpini (so heavily biased)
