3" Drop?

I was recently measured and discovered that I have a 35-36 inch chest and a 33 inch waist/pelvis. I'm more than a little concerned (and a bit depressed) about this since I've heard a normal man's minimum "drop" should be about 6 inches. Does anyone else have a similar issue or have any advice or recommendations regarding it? Thanks.

Surely you realized before being measured that you weren't in the best of shape?

Here's the thing though: I don't have a "belly." It's mainly (if not entirely) the width of my pelvis.

Hey man, not everyone has the figure of Arnold.
Being a short skinny guy myself, its hard to conform to the 'normal mans' measurements.
Work with a good tailor and get the most flattering clothes.

As for the other comment, I think its a bit harsh to postulate that the OP is out of shape. This might be the case, but some people have different bone structure, and he may have a smaller chest circumference. A 33" waste on a tall thin person might not reflect a lack of physical fitness.
Just my 2c.

I believe you're waist is measured at the smallest place around your abdomen. That most certainly isn't at your pelvis. Perhaps you're not measuring right?

The width of your pelvis doesn't have anything to do with your waist measurement, though I'll give you credit for a very interesting take on the old "I'm just big boned" chestnut.

If I wore my pants up at what you define as my waist I'd look like Louis from "Revenge of the Nerds."

waist = navel

pelvis = top of pelvic bone

is that where the measurements are being taken?

is your unhappiness with your body or with how your clothes fits?

*I reread your post and from what I understand you are not happy with your body. Are you ready to work out?

I measured just above the tip of my pelvic bone which is right under my belly button.

It's a mixture at this point.

In my opinion, you have a small chest but you can work on that. I am not a fitness expert but I am a firm believer in push ups, chin/pull ups, and dips. Have you tried working out?

I would start with push ups and pull ups and then work my way into other exercises.

I am currently unhappy with my fitness level and body size but I am working on it. To give you an idea: I have successfully gained a small gut, lost a lot of muscle mass in my arms and chest, endurance has decreased, and my lower body has gotten flabby. I am lucky to have the ability to get back to decent shape rather quickly but I am trying to change a lot of the bad eating habits that I picked up in the past year.

I've been trying to do as many push ups as I can.
