Looking for advice from Porsche owners...

Ive been looking at a few used Boxsters lately....id love to get some feedback on the good and bad on em. And please, save the "its a womans car" or "get a 911 instead" blah blah. Im specifically considering a boxster. Anything i need to keep an eye on when getting a used one?

I don't own one but imo they are great cars

only issue I'm aware of is the main seals/bearing and the balance shaft seals

you can find out a bunch on a Porsche forum

get the new release if poss
if you cant afford the $600/month lease, then look for the 987.2 version with the updated motor that has all the engine blowing up issues fixed (IMS)
987.1 versions got the tiptronic slushbox, dont get that shit
987.2 has the double clutch - but it shifts by pressing buttons on the steering wheel (lame)
i think the release finally has actual paddle shifters now... (you want that)
if you get the manual - 987.1 non-S has 5 spd ... (fail)

people who say boxster is a gay's car, have never driven a boxster... (samething applies to gayman)
i test drove a non-S gayman, shit was nasty - almost leased one myself

dont get the 986 - that shit is carbage...

to be frank, if you are looking used - get a s2000 instead... if you want a bit prestige, get the bmw z4
both are day-night over-all better options than a coxster unless you get the new 2012 release or at least the 987.2

Boxster is the probably the only modern Porsche I would consider buying and wat to own... I like the fact it's little and has two seats. It's what everyone who owns a Miata look forward to. But what do I know I use to bleach my hair and will again in the near feature when I loose some weight. I think the little red Porsche will look totally cool with blonde hair in the wind on the way to class with my Starbucks coffee in the cup holder... Totally serious in this post...

thanks for the info...very helpful! I know a porsche forum wouldve been the best bet....but im far too lazy to register for another forum right now haha

haha...not sure if srs...however, i am looking at a red boxster today. perhaps i need to make an appt with my hair lady to go lance bass blonde.

base model boxster, it was a lot of fun to drive today. not a smooth easy ride...but a TON of fun. blows the doors of my lexus. They also had a 2004 Jag XK8 that i fell madly in love with. the interior and smoothness of the jag was unbeatable. But the porsche was too much fun. going down the highway downshifting into 3rd and squealing your tires made my heart flutter a bit wink.gif all in all, a shitty day spent driving some nice cars wink.gif

I really want an XK8/R of that era... I hear nightmares about the tranny on the base 8 and the R is built to higher standards or something. I have not researched the car very much because it's out of my price range. But such a lovely classy car.

up until 2000 they had a part that was made from plastic that would wear out and cause damage to the tranny and cam shaft IIRC. however, after 2000, they replaced it and its not plastic. Seriously, its the sex. the classiest 2 door in my opinion. a mean growling V8, that rides smooth as silk. i loved it no question. my wife loved it, the crowd of girls at the intersection loved it too. wink.gif
