A Fine Pair of Shoes x Alfred Sargent MTO Thread - Page 14

Gents, anybody knows it there are already 5-6 orders for ASE Benson MTO in house?

Want to buy a pair, 300 pounds for the MTO cordovan monks with free int. shipping imo is a sweet price,  but if I'm the only one, then I'll pass.

 

And by the way who can advise, which C&J lasts can be compared with the ASE 99 last?

 

In C&J best fits for me are UK9,5E  337& 341, what size of 99 will fit?

I believe there are 3 of us on the preorder currently for the Benson MTO. You would be the 4th, so you definitely should jump on this. One step closer.

Not to rain on your or anyone else's parade but I though these puppies run to £590 inc VAT (£491.67 ex. VAT), with £300 as the deposit.

Or did I get that wrong?

Yeah, you have rained my parade. From one side this particular style I haven't seen in cordovan anywhere else (any hints?) , plus it is still cheaper than Dikenlacker or Alden in cordovan.

From the other side I don't know much about AS Exclusive

 

How ASE compares to C&J Handgrade for example?

No, but I tried Barry cordovan UK 9,5 and it sits tight but cofortable.

Having handled both AS Exclusive and Handgrade, I would say that the Exclusive specs are somewhat nicer than Handgrade. I think the finishing is a bit cleaner and the styling is better. What is particularly attractive for this MTO is the Benson model, which is exclusively part of Alfred Sargent's top of the line collection, which AFPOS has been able to secure for us at a more palatable price point on the Exclusive line in gorgeous Cognac shell. Sounds spectacular to me.

Not sure what you mean by Barry cordovan? If you mean Alden's Barrie last, they are sized in US sizes even in Europe, so not sure where you got the 9.5UK sizing. If you are a 9.5US in Barrie on the Alden, I am a 10D US on Barrie and went with 10F on the 99 last. Seems you would likely be a 9.5F on the 99 last in that case. YMMV.

and I didn't knew they marked European collection in US sizes!!!! Would be suprise if I order it online from US in 1 size bigger.

I think the £295 is the initial deposit. You will have to make another £295 payment when AFPOS alerts you that the shoes are ready to ship.

I don't think Alden would mark their shoes with a UK size; maybe the best way to confirm is ask the store in question. Irrespective, at least from my experience, the 99 last fits comparably for me with my Barrie last; I went with 10 in both Barrie and 99 last.

However, I would note that you tried on a 9.5E on the Barrie last, which is wider than the standard US D sizing. In the US, the E designation is wider than standard. If that was tight on you it seems like you might have slightly wide feet so you may have to size up. My best recommendation would be take measurements of a pair of shoes that fit you well or simply your bare feet and reach out to AFPOS and they will get your size dialed in; they are super helpful.

Regarding the 99 last, the fit is definitely different compared to the Barrie. The Barrie is a fuller last whereas the AS 99 is a smart shoe last (I would say closer to the Aberdeen but not as long). Compared to the C&J, I would say the shape is similar to that of the 341. From my experience, it feel a bit more snug than the 341 though. Maybe others might chime in.

However, the bal boot in the 724 fits nicely like like the 337 shog[1].gif

Do we have 6 yet for the bal boot?

^ I tend to agree but I still think the 99 last is on the wide side which makes it comparable to Barrie in how it fits (at least for me).
