Look at them, it's almost art! I dont think anyone could beat RLPL models, pictures and commercials?

Good call. RLPL advertising is astounding. He's really nailed that American conception of Old World money.

Seems more "Great Gatsby" than "Old World money" to me--just my impression.

He really has. It's not only purple label but Ralph Lauren in general. I mean the music, the small details he uses in every picture. Even if someone don't like Ralph Lauren, he will automaticallyhappy.gif

Polo branding has always been amazing. All the details in every part of the product (like the handtags as well) are always top tier. Really only buy RRL now but kept a few tags from Polo from the 90s and early 2000s. So nice icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

I'd say Victoria's Secret models blow these pretty boy's out of the water, but that's just me.

Sure but dont forget the Ralph Lauren women? I think comparing all this to Victoria's Secrets is little off in a way. But I can't complain on the models inlove.gif

I agree it is much more Great Gatsby than "Old World money". If you look at how Ralph Lauren himself dresses, or look at the cars he collects, you see that the man has a thing for that period. I believe he dressed the cast for the movie Great Gatsby with Robert Redford and everyone basically wears RLPL.

You could argue that Americans in that period were taking cues from England, which I'm sure is true, but that's a slightly different point. I heard somewhere that reporters anxiously reported what the Prince of Wales wore when he visited North America.

Also agree with you there. But do you think RLPL is the one that beats many other brand advertising or in general Ralph Lauren (all collection)?

The primary deficiency of Ralph Lauren advertising over the years is that all of it is completely devoid of a sense of humor and lightheartedness. This deficiency always keeps it one rung below being sophisticated.

A contrary example from the off-the-rack world:

221

263

458

446

467

467

I don't know where people are getting the "American old money" and "Great Gatsby" connections. The look promoted in RLPL ads are more old Hollywood, and the cut that launched RLPL and which Lifshitz himself still wears (wide, padded, extended shoulders and nipped waist) is based on 1970s Blades of Savile Row more than anything else.

^Makes it seem very striving. I like a lot of Ralph's stuff but have never understood the appeal of the ads.
