Anthony's Shoe Service: http://www.yelp.com/biz/anthonys-shoe-service-san-francisco
Honestly, I don't have much to compare it to since it was my one and only time going to a cobbler, but Anthony was super helpful. I bought a pair of shoes on ebay and some fool had painted the sides of the soles black. I was expecting to have to totally replace the sole which he quoted me as $120 or something, but he offered to try sanding off the paint first and going over it with some laquer, which would run $30. I wasn't sure if it'd work, so he said he'd put the $30 towards the $120 if I didn't like it and wanted to totally replace the sole. Saved me almost a $100 and the shoes look great.
