LinkedIn

Does anybody find it worthwhile being a member of LinkedIn?

I've been a registered user (not paying) there for a while...

It's a nice way of keeping track of contacts you make in your professional life. I don't do very much networking on the actual site but I try to add persons when I can. I've also been offered interviews for two positions solely by having my CV there. Not too bad at all.

I haven't really used it much... I think I only have like 3 contacts... I'm hoping it will be more useful in the future. Glad to hear someone is getting interview offers though.

I'm currently a 1st-yr MBA student at a well-known school. I'm not pursuing investment banking or consulting summer internships, which is the bulk of on-campus recruiting. I have found LinkedIn to be pretty useful in generating leads in more non-traditional fields and geographies. I've have had about a 75% success rate in generating new contacts via LinkedIn.

YMMV

I use it. It's useful for figuring out who my contacts know so I can know who to pester for an introduction.

Coincidentally, I just received an interview request from a headhunter based on my LinkedIn profile. Maybe it is worthwhile.

That is really good to hear!

If anyone wants to add me as a contact, send me a PM and I'll give you the information. Maybe we could all at least add each other in order to expand our contact bases?

I joined LinkedIn as a non paying member about 3 weeks ago and I've found it very useful. Great way to organically grow your network. I've had a few request for intro's from contacts of my contacts. Actually, I'm having lunch with one of them next week. This is a person that works in an adjacent field that I would never have met.

I'm also building a profile there and lack contacts. Feel free to PM me, never can have a big enough network. *edit* Edit to add I'm a business student on my 1st year.

I will be sending you all a PM with my email address and profile name so you can feel free to add me if you wish.

Yeah, I just signed up a week ago or so. I'm not sure how useful it is for someone at the very earliest stages of a career, as I am. On the other hand, it can't hurt. I'm also not sure how many people in my field (legal) are even using it, since it seems like the most users are concentrated in technology and related businesses. edit: like others in this thread, I am open for new contacts in any field - you never know when they might come in handy, right?
