It'll be a week before they make it to this side of the pond. I'll post my experience once I've got them on
Just received my 5 pairs of Avi Rossini today (wow, 2.5 days from order to door - cross the Atlantic!) and they are splendid
. Let me reiterate: s p l e n d i d
. I had no idea cotton socks could be so fine. I happen to have a few very nice cotton items, including a pique Avon Celli polo which is nearly divine, so I've got a little bit of consumer experience in handling some better quality material - these are just top notch.
To my foot, they are as comfortable and fine as my best Bresciani wool/nylons.
One point which surprised me - out of the package, I was certain - certain
- that they were too big. I mean, way too big. I was so sure, I started writing Malford a note until I realized something - they are 100% cotton and don't stretch like my wool/nylons do. Comparing directly to my wool/nylons, they're easy 30% larger on the table. But holding them up to my feet, they looked spot on. So, I rolled the dice, broke open a package and tried them on - perfect fit.
So, keep in mind that they have only nominal stretch - which is actually a good thing, in the sense that they don't turn from solid to sheer like some of my wool/nylons will when they transition from drawer to foot. I only got to try them on for a little, but they seem to have great OTC holding-up power. They have a real snug "barrel" at the top that seems to grip well without getting into circulation-cut-off territory.
For about $24 they're the best damn sock bargains you've ever seen. No, Malford isn't putting me up to this (though I'm a repeat happy customer) although I'm happy to once again pass along just how thrilled I am with his products, service, and price.
One other kudo - We all know Malford's photography skills are great, but in particular he does an excellent job of accurate color representation (assuming you're viewing apparatus is near true). 4 of my 5 were a fairly narrow range cream-to-beige, which is easy for pics to misrepresent and you end up with tan/khaki, and all of Malford's were accurate to the site's portrayal. That's quite a feat that's harder to reliably accomplish than it seems; kudos to Mal for getting it right.Edited by razl - 6/12/13 at 1:54pm
