The modern cut is great as long as long as it fits you right. Tailored wrong and it's a disaster.

But here, I will try my best. It is either an objective standard, or a reflection of your personal preferences.

Manton doesn't like red ties. Thus, red ties are never CBD. Hence, it's the latter. That's why it's hilarious when people argue with him about what it is. The answer is always "Whatever Manton says it is."

No, there is more to it than that. Really, it's not complicated.

I never said it was complicated. It's quite simple. You invented the concept - you are the gate keeper. The oldog posts followed by your immediate critique of them as falling outside the realm of CBD, followed by all the rancor it precipitated entertained me to no end...here's a man who has started a thread, ostensibly to demonstrate a concept he has created, and along come a bunch of guys who post pics of themselves in all manner of stripes and patterns and shoes without socks and it becomes a riot when you tell them that what has been posted does not comply with a concept you created from whole cloth. The simple truth, unless someone can intelligently refute me, is that CBD is what you say it is (as mafoofan points out), and that's that.

Right, it's really worth getting angry about.

Once again: more creative than the IBM dress code, less outlandish than the average WYWN post. Beyond that I can go into a great deal of detail and paint a coherent picture. But if, as it appears, you read that thread and saw my posts and still think it's completely arbitray, then there is no point.

It's one of those sartorial things that words can't quite grasp, but the photos (gdl's, Manton's) do portray (although I would add "New York" to CBD for what they show here).

Look, if you think no socks and motorcycle bandanas are CBD, or that my exclusion of them is arbitrary, I really have nothing to say that could convince anyone otherwise.

I am not sure where to post this... and the subject is a DB blazer, so I think this might be the right place...

I recently bought this 6x3 DB Gant Blazer as a purely casual, weekend jacket:
http://us.gant.com/men/clothing/blazers/r1-the-doubler

I have been reading up on older threads (2007-2009) about 6x3 jackets and other threads about contrast boutonnieres.  Many people were highly critical of both styling cues, and I am wondering if this jacket is too outlandish to be of real use even in a casual setting.  I quite like 6x3 jackets, and loathe 6x2s, but I am not at all attached to the contrast stitching; I am wondering if this white stitching is somehow 'too much'.  I would very much appreciate any feedback, either way; I am quite inexperienced, so I need help.

More of a pea coat than a proper blazer. A little off-center, but if you keep it casual as though it were a light overcoat you could possibly get by.
