Whoever said that a blazer and flannels was inherently informal?  Sure, it is if you've got a polo shirt underneath and aren't wearing socks but put a French cuffed shirt, silk tie and pocket square into the ensemble and you have something appropriate to wear to the opera in the summer time.  So no, holding up your flannels with suspenders is not a 'clash of formalities'.  Given some of the suspenders I've seen for sale at Thurston's, I'd say it would be waggish, droll even.

I have a pair of gray flannel odd trousers w pull tabs. Wear them w braces all the time.

who said I said it was failing? You seem to be implying a lot, just for the hell of it.

it looks preppy to me, maybe classified as 'new' prep, since it may not be 'traditional'

call it what you want, i enjoy the look - that's all.
