then no one can complain that they didn't know the rules. kinda like the terms and agreements you have to accept with every ipad/iphone update and facebook does it too. most people dont read it, but they cant complain they didnt see it since its forced upon you
so anytime there is a new or substantial change to the rules, you can force everyone to accept/read it before being able to create a new ad

True. But there were no new rules...

ok, so i read this whole thread and ive got a question redface.gif
what about price drops? i know you said keep the original price in the listing but does that mean in the headline as well?

for example, i set my price at $100 and later on i drop it down to $80.

in my listing id write, "$100>>$80"
but in the title where there is a Set Price section can i edit it to $80?

hopefully that was clear..

yeah im sure you are allowed and are supposed to edit that price box

i think he just wants the original price untouched within your listing description and any subsequent price drops

This. Clearly, you want to advertise the current price. I just want it transparent to future searchers that you have actually done pricedrops.

Then why did you not implement a system then that automatically bumps the thread on a price adjustment, denies automatically price adjustments under x%, and keeps a history of all price changes automatically? I mean isn't this software costing tens of thousands of dollars? It just seems these solutions are very hacky and inelegant.

Because this is not what we wanted the system to do. We don't care if the price is dropped or not, we just want drops to be recorded. A lot of things are pretty simple in concept, but a bitch in execution, especially when there are a billion moving pieces.

All systems can be abused. There is not automated method of distinguishing between legitimate edits and wholesale deletions of a listing. There is no automated method of disallowing people from typing in "Personal payments via Paypal or add 10%".

You could filter the word Paypal from all b&s posts. No real reason for it to even come up in public. Payment can all be sorted through PM or emails.

There are solutions to a lot of these things. I don't have any inner knowledge of how Huddler's backend works, but I could implement a feature that tracks price drops, blocks price drops that are not enough from bumping the thread, etc. all fairly easily. I can't help but feel like you are asking user's to make up for your system's shortcomings.

Maybe I should PM this $hit.

i just don't really understand why you guys are so set on building a database of information to help future sellers when the search features are nonexistant at best.

I tried to search for m.a.+ recently but couldn't even find a search field inside the marketplace.

I don't get all the pissing and moaning about the system. If the owners were to change the B&S there would be 100 posts in the first day complaining that the old way was better. Why not just review the rules and follow them to the best of your ability?

Too radical. Your plan will never work.

If? I'm missing the part where this is hypothetical.

Have you even been using the system? Bumping and price drops are no longer linked, at all. Tracking price drops is not difficult, but showing it in the price field in a non-cumbersome method is non-trivial.

In any case, please stop derailing the discussion. We are not asking users to make up for the system's shortcomings. We are asking them to not break the rules.
