Brooks Brothers Outside the Box....

I was shocked yesterday to see Brooks Brothers dress shirts displayed at Nordstroms! They were paired with ties of another designer. I expressed my surprise to a sales associate, who said they also had BB ties which had mostly sold out quickly (they still had a few left - a BB signature stripe style). She said Nordstrom's website offers much more, such as underwear. I had no idea BB was doing this now but will look into it. I've seen BB items at Filene's basement, I think, but not in the later years. Otherwise I've only seen them at the BB stores and on the web, with an occasional article at a resale or vintage store.

How long has BB sold their merchandise through Nordstrom's and where else? Not positive but I believe the prices at Nordstrom's were higher than in our BB stores - perhaps a few dollars more for the same dress shirt? I haven't really compared the exact models.

We started carrying them at Nordstrom (at least my location) about a year and a half ago. Nordstrom carries a specially made version, the slim fit non-iron with split arm lengths (i.e 34/35 as opposed to 34).

At my store, the prices were slightly lower than the BB stores because we did not offer a discount if you bought 2 or 3 as is common at BB stores. The suiting is all the Fitzgerald model with some exclusive Nordstrom fabric patterns and some that overlap.

Quality is the same as at BB on shirts, ties, and suiting. It is a strategic partnership to help BB cultivate a brand renewal, or at least that's what the BB reps said when they spoke to us.

I say we but very recently left Nordstrom :(

In this particular case the Nordstrom's I refer to is at Beachwood Place in the Cleveland suburb of Beachwood. There had been a BB in that mall but it moved recently to Eton, Chagrin Boulevard. I'm thinking Nordstrom's may catch some who miss the BB from that mall, though most would just go to the new BB location (which happens, actually, to be a more attractive store though a tinge smaller).

It's been the case for a year and a half or so.  A Nordstrom SA recently told me that the BB merchandise was not selling well and BB was re-evaluating what is sold at Nordstrom as part of the partnership.  From my perspective the BB at Nordstrom is more expensive than BB on sale.

You mean "BB on sale" or "BB for sale?"

Yeah, I made a post about this months ago. I picked up a clearance suit and sport coat from them in December. They also have shirts and ties at the local Rack. The suits and coats are American made and are a Fitzgerald cut.

I would echo what someone else said about the shirts - they are split length unlike the regular store.

I was able to pick up a nice BB dress shirt at the Rack a couple of months ago, 17.5x35, not split length. American made with fabric imported from Italy.

This weekend I also saw a few BB dress shirts in Marshalls but none of them were my size. Made in America from imported fabric.

I'm not a fan of the BB stuff that you find at the Nordstrom stores. It seems too fashion forward and one reason I buy both regular BB and Nordstrom brand dress shirts is because they don't have the split length sleeves but rather both are places where I can get my 16/36 shirts. I suppose BB is doing the split length in Nordies so they don't have to carry as big a selection in those stores, but I really feel like it dilutes the brand.

That being said, there were some very nice BB madras plaid pants marked down to $99 at the Nordstrom in SF when we were there this weekend for the 10 year party. I'm still debating seeing if they have those at my local stores here or maybe having them sent up for me.
