Shopping spree...or vacation? What would you pick? - Page 2

My wardrobe is in horrible need of an update, but this is still a no brainer - travel.  A cruise might not be my first choice (as many others have mentioned), but it's still a hell of a nice way to get away from it all and not have to worry about scheduling anything.  I get bored within a day or two of sitting on a beach somewhere, so the changing scenery of a cruise alleviates that somewhat.  Still, you're young - go backpack across Europe for a few weeks, hit up somewhere traditional like London/Paris/Rome/Venice if you feel like playing it safe to start, or go with something more exotic - safari, SE asia, etc.  The world is full of so many experiences that can't be purchased in stores, and souvenirs/memories can last longer than more material things anyway.

Thanks for all your suggestions even though its on hell of a lopsided vote. Well being in the travel forum section might have something to do with it. I never went to Italy, but I have been to France and the UK already. Most of Asia and to NY and Cali. I never liked the idea of backpacking through somewhere, maybe being out of your element and lost is fun but my idea of a vacation is 5 star hotels, room service, limo's, chauffeurs, sight seeing and fine dining. So my minds still set for 7 days at sea with my state room and 1st class priority boarding. Perhaps if im lucky I can win my vacation back in the casino anyways. thumbs-up.gif

I'm guessing these are the kind of women that mgm92138 is frustrated by, the ones he can't saddle up next to at a bar with an Old Fashioned in hand and have them notice his Tom Ford pocket square.

I was just wanting some input from you guys as to what you would do. Say you have a couple grand saved up, is been a hell of a year and you want to reward yourself. Would you rather go on a big shopping spree or would you rather go all out on a 7 day cruise? This is my dilemma, for the past 4 years I have always opted for the shopping spree. My reasoning has always been that you can keep these material items until you die and resell them if need be, whereas the vacation is just "X" amount of dollars thrown away in a week. I actually honestly never really been on a vacation, flying down to visit grandma or to attend so and so's wedding does not count. It just does not seem best bang for buck in my mind.

to this...

Did you live in France, UK and Asia?

Experiences have a longer-lasting impact on one than possessions; travel.

Travel, but not a cruise. Have fun, lots of it.

Well gents I think I made up my mind. I think I got to break the pattern and just get out there. Seriously I havent had a vacation since 2007. EVEN THOUGH every fiber in my body still says to go buy something. It has not made me any happier in the past 5 years...well shopping had its moments...but I just want to get the hell out of here. The "grind" is getting unbearable.

You can travel luxuriously anywhere you want to go even in South East Asia. If you happen to be in Bangkok, I might be able to give you advises. Otherwise, good luck!

I'm always a big fan of active vacation (skiing).

If you like being on a boat, why not go somewhere and learn how to sail?
