Buttonless Sleeves on a Suit: interesting statement or horrendous mistake?
Styleforum Top Picks
So I was thinking: buttons on the cuffs of a suit are (for the most part) nonfunctional, and even surgeon's cuffs don't fulfill any real role, other than showing off made to measure or bespoke cred. What if someone ordered a jacket made with absolutely zero buttons on the cuff? Could that be done, or would it just look horrendous? Are there any pictures/ precedent for buttonless suit sleeves?
This would look really feminine IMHO.
While you might think it's an interesting idea, chances are that most people when seeing it will think it slightly odd.
I had an overcoat that had this. notice the past tense.
To me surgeon cuffs or jacket pockets serve entirely a decorative purpose, as they add detail and break up what would otherwise be a plain area of cloth. I don't even cut the pockets open anymore.
Same with back pockets on women's jeans, they make their asses look nice and they are not intended to use as pockets. women keep their shit in purses. Notice how even baby clothes have pockets?
I know a guy who also thought the sleeve buttons were optional, so he didn't have them sewn on to the sleeve. Looked weird.
