What's wrong with Stowa? I think their watches are very handsome. You can also get the Chronometer ETA movement in them. Personally I would rather have a stowa than a comparably priced seiko or Hamilton or Tissot. I find them boring and ubiquitous for the most part.

If you're a fan of Bauhaus design, why not a design by an actual teacher from the Bauhaus, Max Bill?

When they were simply Heuer in the 1960s and earlier they were a very respected brand and those vintage pieces today are still admired greatly and garner pretty high prices. Today they are very overpriced based on their quality.
Asthetically many are quite nice including the Carrera posted but their movement quality is basic and finishing merely average in virtually all of their offerings. That $1700+ Carrera is marginally if any better than a $500 Tissot Le Locle.
So they present one of the worst value for money options in the watch world.

the tissot is probably around $1000 for the chrono, not that that changes your valid argument...

That's what I wear and I receive no end of compliments about the watch. Automatic movement, keeps great time. Delighted with it.

I think it depends on which tag you're looking at...

Exactly. Anything recent with a Zenith movement is just fine in my book.

And speaking of Zenith, not sure if it's your cup of tea, but the Zenith Class Elite manual wind is also quite a fine piece:

Zenith is one of the last true "manufactures" as they make all of their own movements in-house. It takes a true watch lover to know and appreciate Zenith, but one of my greatest ever regrets was not purchasing one of these at Harrods 50% off sale about 8 or 9 years ago...

I was in a similar situation. There are a lot of excellent recommendations already. If you have not looked at watchuseek forum, you should. They love watches and know a lot. 500-2500 is a wide range. You have several options.

I settled for a Hamilton Khaki (2824 movement) and EPOS originale 3387 (2892 movement). You can look at my post for pictures. I was looking at Stowa Antea but went for EPOS because I wanted a 2892 movement. I use Khaki for daily wear and EPOS when dressed up.
Good Luck!
