What if they were these shoes?

The IRS gave me license to splurge. But gotta wonder if suede shoes are goning to hold up over the long haul.

Yes I would...
But not for those...

YES! I'm going to drop some of my tax return on these suckers: http://needsupply.com/mens/brands/alden/unlined-penny-loafer.html

I predict you will wear those shoes happily for 30 years. When new you can wear them with summer sport coat and trou. As they age they will look increasingly well with khaki and denim. And on their last legs they will be good for long summer days by the lake with no socks.

(I know - I have a similar makeup, not nearly has high quality as Adlen, that have lived the life above listed.)

The answer is yes. But I wouldn't wear those shoes if they were given to me.
I don't do longwings, or wings at all
In any case, why should suede shoes be priced differently from regular leather shoes.
Mine weren't.

I love suede shoes. Most of the suede shoes I have are of the Alden variety, but I also have these, from Ferragamo:

For whatever reason, my brain is wired to mainly wear suede in the fall/winter..

Hey this must be a :foo: sock puppet. You know, the kind that asks a question about what to do but has already made up their mind and does it anyway even though other try their best to dissuade him.

Yes to suede shoes for over $500. Though I prefer casual shoes in suede as I think of suede as inherently casual.

Also, just as a side note, you do realize that a tax return isn't a windfall, right?

I am wearing some suede captoes today I probably purchased 14 years ago. They are not worn with great frequency, but have held up very well for me. I would not hesitate to spend $500 on suede shoes again.

I acquired a pair of Alden suede longwings and am very happy with them.
