Need help choosing a good briefcase

Because I have not seen any reviews or comments talking about a Dooney briefcase. The only comment I have seen here is in this thread. And since it will cost me $680+, I am wary buying something that expensive that does not have a known reputation for quality.

The DB bag is $680!!!
Check out Glaser Designs and buy one of those.
You'll love the quality for sure.

This post is all sorts of wrong. Kudos for seeking help in something thats a big deal and you don't know what you're doing. Implying that once you're a part of the working world, that every decision you have to make without help is flat out wrong. 6 months into my first job post college I was faced with a hard choice, that I didn't feel entirely comfortable making by myself. I got help from everyone I knew, then I made my choice. Depending on your line of work, most stuff is the equivalent of "open book." If you need help with something, ask for help...

Thanks for the suggestions, and yes those briefcases look really nice. Unfortunately they are a little more than I am looking to spend. I am trying to keep it under $600 and under $500 would be even better.

I have been looking at Tusting Briefcases, and have read some posts about them on this forum. Does anyone have any experience with them in the long run?

I absolutely love Saddleback. The Thin Briefcase is a bit heavy, but it's absolutely worth it. Not sure what's important to you, but I often get stopped on the street or in airports asking about it (I must confess that I convert it to a two strap backpack when pulling wheel luggage which I think interests some people - its functionality over form for me at that point). The other thing is that the hand sticthing in the leather gives it a 'rustic' look which may not be appealing to those looking for absolute fit and polish of a designer bag. But if you are dude, he slight rough look of the SBL bags should work for you.

Plus it has a 100 year warranty, fwiw

I think SBL is great.
Just not for me unfortunately.
I prefer a slightly softer leather with more grain.
Very good quality and value for the price though.

For a young guy, I wouldn't waste $500+ on a briefcase for your first job. If you come to work the first day with your expensive tan leather bag, it will look like your parents bought it. Which is actually the case. Get something innocuous for the time being.

I do think that's the route I will take. I am most probably going to order that Levenger by Tusting Messenger Brief (well below $500) since it looks pretty casual. And it looks like it ages well to:

I believe the Tusting and Levenger are the same. The leather looks very similar in color
