I am an 8D on the Barrie and 8.5D in Quoddy and the 8.5 Trench was way too big for me. I just returned them and will likely re-order an 8.

This may come across as an ignorant post and I apologize if that is the case...I'm just trying to get educated.  I am looking to purchase a pair of boots and am very interested in the new Oak Street Trench Boots with the vibram sole.  How do the quality of your boots compare to those of Redwing or Wolverine?  I know those are both much larger companies with good reputations and it seems like Oak Street is extremely reliable with excellent quality from what I've read.  The Trench's are a little more expensive...I'm just trying to make the best purchase in the near future.  Whichever boots I end up with will be kept for a very very long time.  Thanks!

I would use the boots for casual wear + the occasional visit to job/construction sites (I am a structural engineer).

2 questions:
Will there ever be a black captoe trench in the future?
Is there anywhere in LA that carries Oak Street?

Thanks!

I own a pair of Wolverine 1000 courtland boots and a pair of Oakstreet capped toe trench boots with Christy soles.  Both are awesome boots.  The quality on both are excellent.

Oakstreet boots are fewer in number thus probably have better quality control versus Wolverines.  If I were to purchase another pair of Wolverine's online I'd use Crane's since they seem to inspect the boots for you prior to shipping to you.

The Oakstreets with Christy soles do give a more cushiony bounce in the step.  And the Christy soles are a little more casual looks wise.

Comparing black Oakstreet trench boots with leather soles versus black original Wolverine 1000 mile boots seems to be a more apples to apples comparison.  But I have neither.

Depending on where you live, you could probably try on a pair of Wolverine 1000 mile boots at a department store just to see if there foot last suits you.  I would say the Elston last from Oakstreet is just as comfy and roomy.

Just thought I'd put my two cents in here. I'd been in the market for a while now for a new pair of boots. I have the Wolverine 1000 Mile boot in rust and wanted to get something a little different.

I recently purchased the Trench Boot with the Vibram sole (size 9.5 which is very TTS for most of my shoes - for comparison purposes I was a 9 in the Wolverines) and I absolutely LOVE them. They're amazingly comfortable and the quality is just bonkers as well. They've got a little bit more of a casual feel IMHO which is what I was looking for (I think the Vibram sole has a lot to do with that). So far I've worn them everyday this week and they are really very comfortable - more so than the Wolverines, which may be due to the fact that the Trench Boot leather is so much softer from the get go.

In fact I loved them so much that I also just ordered the Trench Boot with leather sole in black from Context. I can tell that these boots, if well cared for, will last a lifetime and I'm looking forward to testing that out.

Thanks George and crew for some awesome boots!

does anyone know if the captoe trench fits any more snugly in the toe than the plaintoe?

i'm a pretty TTS 10, so i ordered the captoe on the vibram sole in 10. i tried it on for about 30 seconds, and it seems kinda snug in the toebox. i've heard some people say that captoes tend to run a bit more snugly than plaintoes. anyone know if OSB accounted for this?

I own RW 9011's and original Wolverine 1k's. I just took ownership of the Trench Boots this week. Quality and workmanship is similar between all three brands at first glance. All are made here in the States by talented craftsmen & women. I'd put the Trench boots right up there with Alden as well in terms of workmanship. It should come down to fit and aesthetic preference. The Trench boot last is a great match for my foot. Additionally, I find the Trench boot to have a unique style compared to the 1K's and I much prefer the profile of the Trench boot.

the trench boot shits on the wolverine 1000 stylistically.  i think the 1000k has one of the least attractive shapes (read:its f'ing ugly) and their QC is attrocious at times.  Im glad a direct competitor has enetered the market.  Not sure I will ever buy the trench boots, but at least they did it right and they look great

Any chance the Trench Boots will be available for purchase at the NY Market week show? Anything else besides the Trench-oxford we should keep our eyes open for?

Well said. The Wolverine 1K's seemed fine to me...until I came across the Trench boot. This is what a boot should look like.

The problem with the 1000 mile boots (after having owned 2 pairs) is that they are too stubby.
Like I've said elsewhere, their footprint is way small compared to other boots, with a square-ish toe box.
It's an unflattering look IMHO, particularly with taller guys or straight-leg jeans.
Trench boots look relatively sleek in the vamp/toe, with a substantial heel, which I think is a better look.

So if I'm a 7.5EEE in Oakstreet loafers and an 8EEE in Allen Edmond Park Aves, what would be a recommended size for the trench boots? Would I need to go custom width or is this a wide last?

Wait, did I hear this right, a balmoral version of this boot is coming out? When do we get to see it?!

anyone have the natural beefroll loafers? how do you like em?

HW Carter & Sons in Brooklyn is having a in-store sale today (I dk how much longer) with 25-50% savings on virtually every product, including Oak Street shoes/boots. Just picked up a pair of Brown CLX Trail Oxfords, and couldnt be more pleased! They are also carrying a lot of stuff from The Hillside, Engineered Garments, Post O'Alls, Rising Sun, Redwing, etc.
