Got a pair of OSB trench boots with leather sole 2 weeks ago and they are awesome. Great job, guys! They look just as good, if not better than the pictures on the website. The quality is really nice and feel very solid. I love the smell of the Chromexcel also. Unfortunately, they are a little too big, and I realized this after wearing them at work for about 8 days, so there are some small creases on the top of the toe area and the leather sole is scuffed up a bit, so no returns. I'm definitely ordering another pair in a 1/2 size smaller. I think I was trying really hard to make these ones work, since I liked them so much but eventually realized I need to get the right size since I plan on wearing them for a long time. Personally, I like the leather sole more than the vibram sole. The leather sole gives them more of a dressy/classic look, while the vibram sole makes them look more rugged and boot-like.

For any of you wondering about sizing, I wear size 12 in Vans/Nikes and got 11.5s in OSB boots, which were a little too big in the front/toe area. If anyone is interested, PM me. I'm planning on putting them up in the marketplace as soon as my 15 days is up. Here's a pic of them 2 weeks in:

Thanks for the help Nancy. I think I will wait for the Oak Street Commando sole they told me was in the pipeline.

I don't know what OSB has in the pipeline, but I know they *are* listening to what we're asking with regard to soles. They have looked into neo-cork, for example, but they told me that they could only find it sourced from a Chinese manufacturer (from whom Alden gets theirs). I gather they want 100% USA materials, which is totally understandable (though I did say that I would be willing to waive that for neo-cork if they could do one-off on any potentially existant or non-existant shell trenches coming up).

What I'd love to see, since to a small extent the trench boots are quasi-MTO (if they don't have them in stock), is a small level of customization in the soles, at least for SF users. Instead of offering a stock option of leather and Christie, offer a "choose your sole" option, for commando, double oak, neo-cork, maybe even lactae hevea. Again, that would be at such a time as I choose to recraft mine in the future. Which, of course, won't be anytime soon because of the vibram half-soles (which are holding up splendidly).

BTW, I walked about 20 miles in mine last weekend. First off: my feet were in super-pain by the end of it, since they weren't quite broken in. Second off: They are now super broken in, and the half-sole definitely has *not* diminished how well the leather breaks in. They are super pliable now, and I'm at the point where I can even run in mine a little bit.

Not all commando soles are made equal.

I agree that leather soles aren't ideal.  And to be honest, the Trench boot's leather sole is pretty thin.  But you can do as some of us have and have a cobbler put on a Vibram half sole, for between 30 and 50 dollars.

Thanks for the advice, I have seriously considered this option. The only thing that stops me is I don't have a cobbler I trust enough to do the work. I cannot afford to have some hack ruin the soles of my $450 boots.

That is exactly what I want, and is pretty much the same as the sole on my Beckmans.

Wondering this as well. The email I got made it sound like there was some type of coupon code available. I'll have to email OS or maybe George will answer here.

Hey guys,

The Nashville promotion was just for our 1 day in Nashville - HOWEVER, if anyone wants to pull the trigger with the Nashville promotion (today only), just email me (george at oakstreetbootmakers dot com) with your order # after you place it.

Only criteria is that you actually received the newsletter mentioning the promotion (meaning, you were on our mailing list). And if you're not on the mailing list, join already! (sign up is in the almost bottom right hand corner of the site: http://oakstreetbootmakers.com )

I hear ya. Topy is one thing. Commando sole is a whole different story
