Question about the Field Boot. The name of the sole is listed as "Vibram Commando", but is there a more specific name or model number for this sole:

If only the Cristy sole came in a slightly thinner heel thickness. Sometimes it looks too chunky back there. What options are there from Vibram?

A crepe sole would be excellent, but how about the Goodyear Wedge. Is that a possibility?

Just for some Alden sizing comparison, this is what works for me...

 

Brannock Device: 8E (R), between 7.5-8E (L)

Alden Barrie Last: 7E

Alden Trubalance Last: depending on the specific boot, 7D-7E (but closer to 7E)

Alden Leydon Last: 7.5E

Oak Street: 7.5E

 

I hope that helps a bit for reference.

I probably got too specific.

Essentially, going down 1/2 size and sticking true to your width measurement on the Brannock proved to be the best fit for me.

i just got my natural penny loafers from ups today. great construction and quality!

for sizing, i went a full size down from my normal shoe size (8D to 7D) and i think the fit will be spot on once they are broken in. without socks, there is a little bit of heel slippage, but i think it's due to the stiffness of the soles. after some wear, they will get more flexible.

I think that's the 'Unit Sole' - I actually really love that sole - I'll order a case =)

For the StyleForum exclusive - what if we do a natural chromexcel camp boot, with this sole and similar welt? That'd be the first of its kind

I'd prefer a trail oxford with the same specifications (natural chromexcel with that sole and similar welt), but I'd probably be cool with a camp boot too.

Sounds like we're moving toward a trail oxford with those specs =)
Keep the posts - i'll see what I can dig up on that sole tomorrow. Not sure if it's made by Vibram for Goodyear - we'll see!
