******* cancer.

The sister of my brother's wife was diagnosed around three weeks ago with cancer in the brain, liver, breast and bones. It showed up in a CT scan that a doctor ordered when they found a lump on her breast that they attributed to a blockage that developed while breast-feeding her new child.

Despite intensive treatment the cancer spread and she died today. Leaving behind two kids under two years old, grieving parents, a loving husband and a huge circle of friends.

I didn't know her well, just from some family events...not looking for sympathy here. Just sharing the shock at how quickly the cancer spread. And it makes me so sad thinking about those kids that just lost their mother. ******* cancer.

Geez... there's some depressing things happening in this thread.

Douglas - sorry about your dog(s). I almost didn't want to read through your post(s) because I don't even want to think about ever losing my puppy to illness/accident.

Alter - god what a tragedy. you may not want it, buy condolences.

A little lighter reason for me to be pissed:

A colleague of mine gave me his lunch... it was a simple Cuban beans and rice dish out of a tupperware.... it was so ******* good.... simple packed lunch made from leftovers by his wife..... I get pissed when I realize that my wife doesn't know how to boil water...

JFC, Alter, that is horrifying. Very sorry.

I've read through this thread so many times and you hear about people's tragedies (Alter's is not the first cancer tragedy in here) and you do have a moment of shock and you do feel genuine sympathy, but how many times do you translate that meaningfully into your own interactions with others?

I spent a lot of time grieving this weekend in the acute awareness of my loss, and thought about all the times I had been less than kind to those little dogs - angry with them over peeing in the house, or too busy and self-absorbed to give them a proper greeting, or gruffly knocking them off my lap, or just not spending enough time at home, more interested in making it to happy hour.

I will endeavor to really listen to stories like Alter's and enhance the quality of life for those around me, and minimize those regrets.

My god, 3 weeks from diagnosis, that's just horrible. I feel so sick thinking about her poor children.
